KP makes headlines again 2:05pm on 05 Feb 2009 Would we be having this debate if KP had got out on 107, or 117? There seems to be more emphasis put on this because it was so close to being a hundred.
I hope KP understands how much the fans support him, and his way of playing. Maybe we should critisice some of his "injudicious" shot selection from time to time, but it's got him a Test average over 50. I for one think he probably knows more about the best way to play the current incarnation of Test cricket than any of us (journalists included). Cricket evolves, and the only people who understand how it's played right now are out in the middle. Perhaps KP could spend some time with Bell to offer an alternative method of approaching the game? I'd be happier with some of his soft dismissals and slow run rate if his career was sprinkled with a few more important hundreds made by taking a few risks.

It's seen a lot in the UK, people turning away from challenging staff in favour of those who will not make waves.
It's only a point of view, but I mourn the loss of KP. How much do you think he wanted to win next summer??

Bell/Colly/Harmy were always going to be unsupportive, they're not going to like it if they're asked to step up, I really believe they have a cosy deal. If Pietersen had only realised this, he may have gone about this "ultimatum" in a different way and been more successful.

Review of the year will be marvellous I'm sure. The big four don't win the domestic Cups, John Terry can't take a penalty, Manchester City/Robinho/Mark Hughes, honestly you could do a blog just on Man City. Hull City!!! William Gallas goes mental, and Spurs implode. I'm not even trying.

But seriously, it's been quite a year, for all sports and football is no exception. Let's just hope next year you can blog on Liverpool finally breaking that 19 year duck!!

Didn't really see the point of this. If you were going to compare tactics required at lower league level against that of the elite teams, then I could have understood, otherwise this is just you saying "weren't Arsenal and Man Utd great?".

I hope you take that as positive, I've really enjoyed your other blogs.

Who will avoid the drop? 1:04pm on 06 Nov 2008 #84. There is a rule regarding throw ins that you have to be 2 metres away from the thrower when he releases the ball. Dermot Gallagher was on Sky Sports News explaining that referees are having to be very careful with this rule, as when taking the throw in, you only have to be within 10 yards (I think) of where the ball crosses the line so encroachment is something they have to watch out for.

I expect plenty more debate around this, but isn't it great that someone's brought something new to the Premier League.

Now if only they could sort out the ridiculous offside rule nonsense. Inactive my a***!
What we can learn from post-match reaction 1:46pm on 18 Sep 2008 markjhope, Jose Mourinho was always good for a soundbite or two, and Ian Holloway seems to get away with it.

I think honesty from the managers is becoming more prevalent as they are starting to realise that good quotes get them airtime, exposure etc.

What I don't like is when a journo asks a player, fresh of the pitch, "What does it feel like to score the winner with only a minute to go?"
It feels bloody great of course, stop asking stupid questions (If Garth Crooks is reading this then I may have helped someone). Players are not required to have the interpersonal skills of managers, and accordingly many of them stick to the cliches and one word answers. Leave the players to playing football.

Lack of available talent??? Or not picking the best available talent (Owen, Young, Woodgate, Agbonlahor)

And as for comments about Barnes only having the one moment against Brazil, what about turning the "Hand of God" game against Argentina when he came on as a sub, created one goal and nearly the equaliser when Lineker's header from Barnes cross was astonishingly cleared off the line. England could easily have won that game despite Maradona.

Michael Owen may no longer be a World Class striker, but he remains the best that England have to offer and accordingly should be in this squad. I will continue to be an amused Scotsman as England do their level best to yet again ruin what should be a routine qualification campaign. Imagine the reaction if they draw 0-0 with Andorra through a lack of firepower....
