You were obviously well aware that you were doing nearly double the speed that on average is agreed to be the safe speed. But then of course you'll be quite convinced that you're twice as good as the average driver won't you: just like everybody else. The worst driver must therefore be very bad. Lets hope he doesn't pull out in front of you.

Coulson was in charge of a newspaper that did invade people's privacy. Either he knew and is in it up to his Eton collar or he didn't, in which case he is useless. Either way he needs to go... now.

No wonder all the Tory trolls that seem to be here attack the BBC for 'left wing bias'. They are obviously out there with Genghis Khan. That's what we'll get with a Tory government: don't be fooled by 'softy' Dave.
No offence... 3:46pm on 21 Jan 2009 I watched on TV and I turned from BBC to Sky when Huw Edwards continued his inane commentary and discussion over the John Williams music.

The pictures and even the sound can be better on TV: provided you can hear them.
BBC licence free: name that figure 12:55pm on 26 Nov 2008 I think 38p a day: half the cost of a (proper) daily newspaper is pretty good value for the use I make of BBC radio news in the morning, BBC radio on and off during the day, BBC website several times a day, PM at 5, TV news in the evening and the vast majority of programmes I watch in the evening when I have the chance: actually a lot better value than a daily newspaper. I'd be prepared to pay double that.

Daily newspapers, like commercial TV stations also rely on advertising, but you can skip the adverts and the bits of the paper you don't want to read.

Some discussion points:

Why do people complain that the entire output of the BBC isn't tailored to their personal tastes? Why should it be?

For everybody who objects to paying for the BBC: who do they think pays for the adverts that support commercial broadcasters?

Would the standard of television generally be improved if everybody was chasing the same dwindling advertising budgets?

With a subscription service for the BBC the cost of producing the programmes would remain the same (with the addition of the costs of collection) so the average cost of buying the service could never be less than the licence fee, could it?
A change in the Weather 10:03am on 24 Sep 2008 Having briefly looked at the new site, adnittedly briefly, I would agree that it is generally much more strraightforward to navigate and better loking.

However (you knew it was coming) it seems to have the same aversion to giving us wind speed and direction as the 'dumbed-down' TV forecasts. Here in the Scottish Islands this information directly affects our daily lives but it seems it is too much of a minority interest.

The information which was given, which gave no clue as to timing - all important when working out whether/when to make a ferry journey - was near useless anyway.

At least finding the Atlantic pressure chart is not as much of an afterthought as it used to be so we can work things out for ourselves.

On the whole though, the Met Office's own site is more useful if not nearly as pretty.
