Capello's World Cup contenders 8:50pm on 15 Oct 2009 I always thought Nedum Onohua was a much better player than Micah Richards, and now he looks to be steadily improving still, whilst Richards has stalled. If we are talking about players who can make a late charge then I would include him alongside Rodwell, due to the fact I can't see Wes Brown proving he is fit or good enough to play if Johnson is out.

Another I would say is Kieran Gibbs, future England left back without a doubt, hopefull has a strong season, played well last season and is more of an attacking threat than Bridge, Warnock and all other pretenders to Ashely Coles position.

But yes many of us do not care about Newcastle United. I got sick of the media coverage last season saying about 'football in the north east being in dire straights' which is totally not true. They have a team in the premier league and two otherbig teams in the championship who have the potential to get promoted.
If you want a region to cover where football is properly on it's knees then give some attention to the east midlands. Lincoln City, Grimsby Town, Boston United. I'd say all these are in worse positions than Newcastle and Middlesborough wouldn't you? But rant over I do generally enjoy football on the BBC and looking forward to some of the live football league matches.
Why Kraft's salary cap cure cannot compete 03:26am on 15 Aug 2009 Nope just can't compare them. Football is a historic sport and it's survival of the fittest. If a team wants to take a gamble then let them do it, the risks are there, we think top flight football hasn't been hit by silly investment, try telling that to Portsmouths fans, Newcastle fans, Leeds fans, Blackburn fans. Could Chelsea be the next team to implode, maybe.

I don't mind sitting down here and watching the top flight circus, because it's not as if my team (Lincoln City) are close but don't have the finances no, we know we will never reach those heights and our fans are happy with simpler pleasures of having a decent league finish every year, watching young local lads progress through the academy and move on to bigger things (Hobbs, Huckerby, Loach etc) makes our city proud and we are more than happy to stay away from the top and watch teams build up and then crash down, lower league football is passion and pleasure, top flight football is just a quick buzz to us, some drama to watch on tele for an hour on saturday night whilst our real world spins around and I'm sure many teams outside the premierleague when they really look at it are happy in their current position of taking pride in their local team, because we know we will never reach the heights of the PL so have about as much connection with it as NFL fans and basketball fans etc.

Mutu's misery is football's folly 3:37pm on 10 Aug 2009 You say he sorted himself out. But would he have gone to sporting chance clinic or owned up ha he not been caught? Chelsea are right to rinse him of all the money he has. They paid loads for him, kids looked up to him as a role model, and he disgraced himself, he shouldn't be trying to appeal and getting himself in the news more, should just be getting his head down scoring goals and paying off his fine without a word.

Never ending story 2:57pm on 29 Jun 2009 Yes everyone seems to get the tennis fever this time of year, I just don't feel it myself. Good short blog though, interesting to know European qualification starts so early. When do the welsh, Irish and n irish teams come into it? Fairly soon as well I'm guessing.
Fixture and frettings 09:39am on 18 Jun 2009 I can see boro doing better than newcastle. Financially stable, decentish squad, great academy. Most clubs need to gamble wen they go down and spend a lot of money to get promotion straight away, if they don't the first time then it's the start of the slippery slope. Boro don't need to spend that much money and they will be in the play offs I think, if they don't then they have a good enough chance in the following seasons. Newcastle are a different story though, the releases of bi players will have to start soon, how many players will they actually keep? Maybe Harper, Duff, Carroll, Butt? I am a Lincoln fan and can honestly see us playing them in league 1 in the coming seasons.

Great blog as always robbo, these people that complain, if it's so bad then why read it? But one dampened this week, doesn't bint mean arabian whore?
Is Owen still worth a gamble? 1:09pm on 15 Jun 2009 No doubt every premier league team has been scouting him, but theres a reason he hasnt been snapped up and thats because he just isnt very good.

I think the best he can hope for if he wants premierleague football is joining one of the newly promoted teams. But they shouldnt over pay for him, a very small basic wage with more emphasis as earning on pay as you play and bonus's for goals, assists, and man of the match performances etc, only way your going to get value for money from him.
