Does capitalism still work? 9:03pm on 17 Sep 2008 There is nothing wrong with Capitalism except that like every other system ever tried in the world, sooner or later the system becomes disabled because of inherent or innate greed on the part of the people.

The present Capitalism employed by the U.S. for example has always been an imperfect mechanism, however imperfect it still managed the wealth of a nation better than any other system employed by any other major world power.

A very fine line between moral philosophies must not be violated, so when it is violated, changes must be made ...usually to stop and catch up to all the new ways of cheating people manage to discover in a free society. Freedom carries the great weight of responsibility with it and if the people in charge do not insist upon and enforce a certain code of rules or morality-parts or the whole of a system may collapse. So....we tinker, repair, patch, prosecute and hope for the best; however with the world at large having become more secular as each year passes-with the Judeo Christian under constant assault, THAT is what we should be fixing. Freedom insists on a very tight code of morality to insure it's own future. No morals=no freedom=no capitalism=Armageddon sooner rather than later.
Lehman, AIG, Merrill: Is this December 1930? 2:11pm on 15 Sep 2008 Ah......you Brits never fail to amuse me, sitting here in my cocoon of everlasting U.S. prosperity. The best possible set of circumstances that may result from this latest failure of the U.S. Banking/Lending system is the barely possible end of a widely held belief here in the U.S. that we can promote Socialism without becoming Socialist.

Hopefully, at long last ...today's "Robber Barrons" of yesterday will at last begin to pay the piper when they LOSE in a high stakes game of assuming that the the golden calf will forever pay the bill for so many NON PRODUCING CITIZENS HAPPY TO CONTINUE LIVING ON WELFARE whose sole purpose is apparently to have the poorest of all in the U.S. be more affluent than the poorest in Europe, i.e. own(?)more TV's, high profile Athletic clothing, spend much of their welfare on the state lottery and otherwise piss away their money out of ignorance largely brought about by a long time failing public educational system and big time over population brought about by baby making factories whose mates take it on the lam rather than hang around and support a family.
The U.S. is quite a long time overdue for this financial collapse; unfortunately, it will assuredly have major negative effects throughout the world to one degree or another, just as the Great Depression did.
Can the 'War on Terror' ever be won? 5:56pm on 11 Sep 2008 Yes, I do indeed believe that the war on terror will be won, BUT....not any time soon nor will the victory be inexpensive.

It will cost money, time and a dedication to the effort from all freedom loving countries.

If the commitment is not there or does not come forth in greater numbers of countries or espri di corps, this war will not be won and the WORLD will be the worse off for an awfully long time.
