Blair camp not hopeful 2:03pm on 19 Nov 2009 You could find this far-fetched I know but I'll say it anyway. If Van Rompuy has too much opposition then it could well be Brutton. I can well see Sarkozy going with him due to yesterday's travesty game. I know its far-fetched but these summits can have some surprising twists and turns and sometimes decisions are taken on a near-whim.
Will EU flunk its big moment? 11:15am on 19 Nov 2009 Brown is holding on to the Blair card so that at the dinner he can trade it in and request that Van Rompuy not be nominated. Instead someone else with a more toned-down approach to the EU will be nominated. Van Rompuy stuck his head out too early, the British tabloids have eaten him for supper and there is no way that Brown can afford to go back to the UK and say that he accepted the Belgian's nomination or that he could do nothing about it - Not 6 months before an election.

Franco-German alliance growls 1:56pm on 02 Apr 2009 The French and Germans are completely right. And thankfully because Brown is 'playing' at home and will therefore tend to prefer a deal than no deal at all and becasue Obama is still the new guy on the blocks I doubt that they will put up ferocious resistance. Anyway, in the end everyone will go home and continue doing what they think is right. These summits can be useful when it comes to tinkering with the system but I doubt they can overhaul it.
Turnout turnaround? 10:01am on 10 Nov 2008 Electoral reform must absolutely be a priority. Yet another example of two wieghts, two measures. If such an electoral system existed in even a rather developed country (not to talk about undeveloped country) such as Romania or Argentina or South Africa, the international community would be clamouring for an electoral reform programme as part of some Good governance package.

With the US, no one dares open their mouth. Instead the whole world waits with bated breath every four years to see if the americans have mucked it all up by making mistakes.
Stretching America 09:04am on 05 Nov 2008 fearsome challenge of Sarah Palin??!! I really dont think so. If theres one thing that came out from this is that the bullishness of the Republicans was not appreciated to say the least. And since Palin doesnt seem to be able to behave in any other way than a bull (in a china shop) then I can only see her in the wastelands of alaska.

BTW did anyone see John Bolton on BBC yesterday night ranting away like a 6 year old who's had his sweet box taken away. It was hilarious and I'll be probably remembering his silly, bitter comments for years to come.

Yesterday on BBC the news talked about the long lines of waiting voters and interpreted it as "high enthusiasm for the election".
In a developing country long lines get condemnation from the international community.

In the US 2 elections are rigged and no one ever dares call in election monitors from the UN. In developing countries and even semi-industrialised countries electoral monitors are a pre-requisite for the world to even start contemplating that the election was fair.

Bring in the monitors is what i say and lets call a spade a spade!!!

First, it would be useful to remember that the French political system has been specifially changed to precisely try to eliminate the possibility of having a conservative president and a socialist government or vice-versa.

Secondly, I wonder where Mc Cain was when Bush was composing a whole supreme court of the biggest neo-Cons in the country.

Don't worry Republicans you still have the court on your side for a while. maybe you can try and win the election there... as usual.
