Changes to international pages (4) 05:43am on 16 Aug 2009 I am coming back hewre after some time to register the point which I believe is the same for so many here - that I no longer use the BBC site to the same extent that I used to.

My feelings towards the BBC has completely changed - whereas one I would have defended the BBC unreservedly, now I see it in a completely new light. Why? well because of the way this change to the site was done. There was no consultation whatsoever. It was forced on us. when we protested you too no notice and then told us that the change was going to stay anyhow.

Well Mr. Herrmann, you lost the BBC many faithful supporters from the very people who used and trusted the BBC website so much. When it comes to more attacks on the BBC I hope you'll remember our protests NOT to change the site access. Goodbye.
Changes to international pages (3) 4:32pm on 01 Jul 2009 Like others just checking to see if sanity and politeness has returned to the BBC Editors. Sadly it hasn't and still as miffed by the lack of response.

So please give us back our choice. Make the couple of thousand of us who have bothered to comment on behalf of the thousands who haven't, happy again. Please!

I have also had a reply from the BBC Trust, regarding my complaint about the changes to the site which states the following:- "I have noted your concerns about recent changes to the BBC Website and
how these have affected you. In terms of the questions you ask about the

I am now seriously disaffected with the BBC from Top to bottom. I cannot wait for Feedback to come back on Radio 4. Maybe if a particually abusive E-mail is sent - something may be done.

(I still love Judi Spiers on BBC Radio Devon - always good for a laugh every morning)

Thanks for addressing one of my points at the top of the page.

I'm sorry though but I'm using the BBC site less and less. Quite honestly, and call me lazy if you like, I cannot be bothered searching all over the place to find what I used to be able to see on this International Edition. My International Edition Homepage consists of International News, which I don't want to see as I see it all on BBC WorldNews, and nothing else. No weather, actually I can get my local updated weather on my laptop screen, No Sport, I prefer my local sport back home. No Lonely Planet. No Languages. No Radio or TV guide. The BBC Homepage and the site has over the last 3 weeks become useless to me.

The BBC has always got it wrong when it came to coverage of the World to the UK and the UK to the World. Way back, you could only hear BBC World Service Radio at night if you lived in the far South East of England. If you were overseas and needed News from the UK you got 6 minutes of "News about Britain". Now no longer on BBC World Service and BBC WorldNews doesn't attempt to cover British News for the Expat. Now we have this final Kick in the guts to the British expat.

As the MP for Gloucester so adequately put it in the Speakership election yesterday, you just don't "Get It". Do you?

The Google ads are a turn off, other advertising is a turn off. The whole site has now become a turn off or rather a "why bother to turn on". You just don't Get It, Do You?

Thank you for replying at the top of this page that you have read all our postings. You say it is very clear that many of us who have posted do not like the changes. You also say "there's one fewer choice you can make - selecting your edition." Well it seems to me that we have been given a leave it or lump it reply, and to be very honest, it's what most of us thought we'd get. You obviously have no time for British residents overseas having the complete coverage of events at home that we were formerly able to see.
I wonder if it has occurred to you that we chose the UK version because we did not want to use the overseas version? Some forewarning of the change would have been polite to say the least. We could have voiced our concerns.

I have answered many questionaires that have popped up on my screen when I have logged onto the BBC website, gladly. If you had given us the chance via a questionaire about the proposed change then many of us would have filled in the information you would have wanted and filled in the comments section you usually provide if we felt we needed to add with relish. You chose the dictatorial method of enforcing a change.

You say towards the end of your reply to us all above that " we'll get to work on making some changes to the site which we think you actually will like!". OK sir, you know my e-mail address as you sent me a note saying you had deleted a comment I posted on the Iranian blockade, so please, write to me and tell me just what it is you think I'll "actually like". Tell me what I, who preferred the UK version, will like on this International version, that I previously avoided, will like. I am very suspicious that you know what my tastes actually are.

Changes to international pages (2) 1:48pm on 17 Jun 2009 I decided a few minutes agao, having read a prevoius post to use the proxy server that was given also in an earlier post.
Tey had an Item of news of Interest to the BBC News Editor, which when he decides to read all our posts he should take good note of, as it wil give him a good idea of how many people overseas are looking into the BBC in the UK from overseas - that is, the relatively few of us.

We've had to remove access to the BBC iplayer for the time being, it was chewing our bandwidth at an alarming rate, sorry about this. if we get hold of some more bandwidth we'll switch it back on."

Changes to international pages (2) 3:42pm on 15 Jun 2009 Well now here we are: I am a British Citizen, a registered voter and extremely interested in the historical hustings for a New Speaker of the House of Commons. So I find the page for the TV coverage of the Hustings to see who is standing and to decide who I woud like to see as Speaker and write to my MP and what do I get?

Cannot play media. Sorry, this media is not available in your territory.

This is EXACTLY why I do not like this change.

Get me back to what I had before.

Ideally, we would not have taken that away, it's just that it wasn't possible to maintain it and still carry out the changes we had to make. Ah! So this latest fob off from you. "Changes we HAD to make"? I don't think so. Changes you forced on us without discussion or notice.

I opened my normal Homepage to find something completely different. I thought that somehow my computer hade been phisshed or whatever it's called. Tell me Mr Herrman - how would you feel if you started your computer and found that your background had been changed or that your screen saver havd been changed and that your normal Homepage had been changed. What you have done is just not acceptable to myself or to many of us here who have used your blog to complain.

I for one am not accepting your apology. I am not prepared to "bear with" you. My homepage is not 2 small sections that takes up one screen whereas when I had the option to the UK site My homepage required me to scroll down to other areas. The International homepage does not have what I was used to. I'm using the BBC site for about one tenth of the time I used to.Somehow you seen determined to annoy and upset a lot of expats who want to be loyal to the BBC. Why I don't know. I haven't read a single word to justify what you have done.

Next time you want to gloat about the awards you get such as the "WEBBYS". Just remember the users of your formerly excellent site who you have totally disappointed.

So when are we going to get what we previously had. I suppose that making us comment on another blog will mean this blogs comment forum will close and we'll have to suffer. well I for one will not be silent. I have written to the BBC Trust and to my MP. The BBC may have disenfranchised my from access to the UK site I have used for many years but I still have a vote and can influence my MP and indeed have the right to complain to the Culture Secretary too.
