A European team for the 'noughties' 12:50pm on 22 Dec 2009 People are talking about a holding midfielder or bit of muscle in the middle and so mention the likes of Makalele, Vierra and Guttuso yet don't mention Roy Keane. Surely Keane is better than the lot at chasing the ball, being hard/tough and leadership?

He could lead any team to be better as captain. He wasn't half bad at being box to box either and getting amongst the goals. Vierra rates him (as well as Scholes) very highly from the interviews I have seen of him recently, looking back. And before anyone mentions how dirty Keane could be, they all were just as Mascherano is today. Vierra talked about how if you kicked Roy Keane then he wouldn't say anything but then later on if he kicked you or mistimed a tackled he would also expect you to not say anything. Regarding Scholes he simple said you could never get close to him to kick him.

Gutusso may have won the World cup with Italy but he's not a patch on Keane. Oh and ROFL at the guy who said the reason/or link of Real Madrids galaticos winning things and then Chelsea winning things is down to Makelele. ROFL, he was a good player but I think a few hundred million might have 'slightly' more to do with it!!!! Blackburn didn't have Makalele and City don't now but they are doing better all of a sudden and in next few seasons will be coming thick and fast no doubt. Money is king in sport weather you earn it or get it from a new rich owner or even the Spanish government.

Phil's team is a very good team but IMO to much has been based on international Euro or World cup teams. A European cup with club is just as good as a Euro/World cup with international. I mean at the world cup we will see Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard, Fabregas, Ronaldo, Messi, Pato, Aguero, et all but we see those in the European Champions league too. And for every Brazil, Italy, Germany, Argentina, England, France, Uarguay, you have a Man United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, Juventus, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Inter Milan etc.
Ferguson revels in classic win 12:40pm on 21 Sep 2009 I'm so so so so so GLAD that MOTD2's Adrian Chiles and co added up the extra time after the 4 minutes was already given of 56 seconds of Belamy's goal celebration running around to the crowd with his arms out and the substitution. They commended the ref as he was only 1 second out, that is incredible accuracy and finally puts the topic to bed.

It was such a cracking game, it had end to end, celebrations, amazing atmosphere, the booing of Tevex every time he got near the ball (not because he joined City but because all the comments he said in the press about us and Fergie), mistakes and some cracking play and goals. The United fans take some stick sometimes with the "bet you're from London" comments but they were absolutely class and that GIANT banner saying Welcome to Manchester with 18 x PL, 3 x CL and 11x FA cups was just perfect. How fitting that Tevez was their man striker and didn't score yet Owen came on for a few minutes and scored to win the game. Sums Tevez up really, a good little player who works hard but doesn't score enough goals and 5 league goals hardly made a huge impact to anyone's PL season. Macheda got half of that and had about 3 games ha.

As per usual with the Champions we get people saying we buy off the refs and have more penalties, sending off's of other teams and extra time so we can score than anyone else. People only have every tiny thing we get under the microscope because we are the biggest club in the world and England, have the big stadium and win all thr trophies more often than not. No one ever talks about what decisions non big 4 teams get or even the lesser teams because they 'don't matter'. All those people I heard moaning about 6 mins added time where put in their place by MOTD2 so thank god for that. Also not only last season but also in the last 10 premiership years overall Man United have not have the most opponents sent off or had the most penalties. Funny that isn't it.

No doubt next time United get anything over 91 minutes time or a penalty we will hear the same story of Old Trafford or United always get the most decisions and everyone will conveniently forget that we aren't even close. Chelsea and Liverpool get the most.Liverpool had 9 opponent red cards last season plus 4 pens, that's 9 games of 38 v 10 men, no wonder the went close for once but still everyone says its United. People are still going on about that Spurs one this season, yet I bet they don't recall a single ref error of decision for any other team in last season.

Brilliant game, brilliant drama and atmosphere and thank god we won because we had the way better chances and dominated their goal more of the time, those 2 mistakes by us could have cost us but they didn't and to cap it all off the ref was as close to spot on as he could be with the time, 1 second out. CLASS.

When oh when will Liverpool players, staff, ex players and fans most of all learn not to keep saying every summer than this will be our year? I think we've all heard it for at least the last 10 years and that's being kind, all football fans now regularly joke about "this is our year" when talking about Liverpool so much so that they are becoming like Newcastle United. Newcastle were a team that should be bigger than they were in terms of consisten league position or winning things because they have one of the biggest stadiums and spent big money on bigger names than teams around them, fans expected them to win a trophy and practically sacked any managers they wanted with pressure, Liverpool are like this in many ways in that they EXPECT to win the Premier league because of what they have won decades ago. Just like England fans expecting to win the world cup every time just because we invented football, like Liverpool you should win it first OR come close consistently and Liverpool, Newcastle or even England have not done that.

Why do people (Liverpool people) also keep going on about "draws at home cost Liverpool the title" its absolute rubbish overall because yes they did drop lots of points that way but they beat all the top 4 including Chelsea and United twice most with red cards helping get results in all games. Its all right saying "if it weren't for this or that it was ours" but truth is all of Chelsea, Arsenal and United struggled last season through one thing or another. United may have been the only team to get 90 points but we all know we were playing poorly in a fast paced attacking sense that we usually see. Hansens talking about Ronaldo but it was actually the defence who broke the England and British all time defensive records in lots of 1-0 games or is that all forgotten now?

Vidic was tipped most of the the way through for PFA player of the year and without Giggs he probably would have got it too. I'm guessing with Giggs it was a case of the end of the previous season coming into the voting players minds when he came on to score and seal the title away to Wigan to end Chelsea's chance and also scoring the winning penalty in Moscow in the European cup final whilst equaling and breaking Sir Bobby Charltons all time United appearance record in both games. Ronaldo didn't seem to get a luck in.

In fact most of the season in the Premier people kept saying how Ronaldo isn't doing anywhere near as good as last season in a way of suggesting he was almost doing BADLY and it was only when he starting cracking in goals in the Champions league v Porto and Arsenal that they decided he was on fire. Now all of a sudden he won us the title last season, for me it was the defence who played the biggest part ESPECIALLY considering the ones like Evans who came in for Vidic/Rio and O'shea who came in for Wes Brown.

Tevez scored 5 league goals yet some people are going on about him as if he was a major force. As a 3rd choice forward he did alright and worked hard thats about it. He scored a couple of important goals but then so did Macheda who's just 17 and never played hardly.
Ancelotti strikes first blow 6:11pm on 10 Aug 2009 You've got to love all the windups or in some cases bitter fans (because they are smaller than us and their team wins nothing) coming out of the woodwork to have a good laugh and slate Ferguson or this player or that. Sorry but it doesn't wash, United simply do not surround the ref or chase him in the manner Terry, Ballack, Drogba, Cole etc do they don't show him that amount of disrespect well not since the Cantona or Keane days anyway. Sure they moan up approach the ref and maybe Wayne will swear or react from a distance but they don't do what Chelsea did v Barcelona or what Ashley Cole did when he turned his back on the ref and Terry etc piled in face to face.

Players should be allowed to react initaially and the Captain should be aloud (Rio in this case) to moan a fair bit as long as its not too over the top like Terry. Terry also spat on Tevez neck in a sly way whilst pretending to wipe his mouth on his sleve as seen right now on Youtube. Him being England captain with kids looking up to him should do better because IMO and thats all it is my opinion is that he and his mates are the worst in the Premiership at it and ever since Mourinho had them doing it.

I say that with not as much hatred for Chelsea either because whilst they are a rival they are not a big club just a big team with a rich owner, yes they can challenge but they only have 3 league titles in other 100+ years of football and no Champions league, few FA cups. Liverpool and Arsenal are historically our main rivals with both having big club status plus rich history. Chelsea are basically being replaced by Man City now except that Man City actually have a bigger fan base, better stadium and even richer owners so once they become a big TEAM as well as in threat for the trophies then they are totally above them.

Not too fussed about losing to them in the FA community shield but I did want us to win it because we are only a few trophies from the overall official trophy list of Liverpools 59 with us having 56 I think. They all count just like their 4 more Carling league cups do.

Winning the Charity shield would have meant winning the Premier league and anything else would have equalled them so its a touch unlikely we'll do it this year let alone beat. Winning 3 trophies + again like last season would be amazing but very very hard.

Good look to Chelsea they capitalised on Fosters mistakes played better in the second half than us and too their penalties well. Fair play and Enjoy the charity shield victory, a trophy is a trohpy so don't listen to what others say. You've won more this season already than Arsenal and Liverpool in the last 3 seasons and its only just getting started lol.

Can't wait for the season.
Khan fighting a losing battle? 09:59am on 19 Jul 2009 I'm English, white, was born here and both my parents are English and I too reckon there is a lot of racism shown towards Kahn and that this is why a lot of people hate him, a lot not all.

No doubt you will get asians and muslims who don't like him but I've heard and seen comments both in bars and on the web about him being the 'P' word etc and not really being English. The stream I watched of it last night had loads of people abusing him in this way, many of them if not all from the UK.

To those talking about Haye as not being hated and this 'cockyness' thing well Haye is black and we've been used to black sports stars in football and all over for years so its not the same. Hamed I don't know but IT IS CLEAR that a lot of people that hate Amir Kahn do so because of his background. He may be over rated by our media but all countries do this with their up and coming footballers etc as do ours, some justified, some not but he is definitely not over cocky and far more cockier boxers out there like Calzaghe, Haye and Hamed. I don't see him showing off in the ring like Joe or saying he's the best, he just shows confidence in his fights and what he will achieve and this is to be commended.

If Amir Kahn is cocky and arrogant and deserves this hatred then what is Floyd Mayweather? Throwing money around at people and the camera etc. Kahn on TV like Jonathon Ross show and Beat the star has always come across as quite down to earth and friendly, certainly not like an Arsenal FC at all. (LOL).

Anyway Kahn is a world champion now and only at 22 so fair play to him and all the best to a British fighter who's the next in bringing us some entertaining fights to watch. Just like good fighters like Eubank, Benn, Nazeem Hamed, Calzaghe, Haye etc I'm just happy we have someone to watch worth watching.
Tevez a sound deal for Man City 2:06pm on 14 Jul 2009 FAO hesbighesred, mate stop going on about Liverpool and showing your hatred for United which some how means you qualify as a mystic meg knowing exactly what players may or may not do before they've even kicked a ball.

It smacks of jealousy but then who can blame you Liverpools when you've had to watch us sweep up title after title catching you up to 18 ever since that day you held up the banner saying "Cantona and United come back when you've won 18". Can wait till we over take you and whilst it will be hard to win it 4 times in a row for next season as no one has ever done it I think you won't win it. 9 red cards won't be bailing you out this time.

No league in nearly 20 years T W O D E C A D E S, only 1 European cup in 25 years, never won the premiership at all and won no trophies of any kind for last 3 seasons. How is your stadium coming along that you was promised? Must be well on its way now....... ooooops.
Tevez a sound deal for Man City 11:56am on 14 Jul 2009 Mulvy20009, as I said you don't have a clue really as Legends of Rooney's position Zola, Bergkamp and Del Pierro haven't done better than him in some areas. Rooney has had an amazinf career already and scored against TOP teams, you can highlight all the Lichensteins or whatever you want but for every one you find there is an Arsenal, AC Milan, Croatia, Russia, Holland, Argentina or whoever.

You don't like or rated Rooney fair enough we get it and you're allowed a view but it doesn't change the fact he has performed on all levels, all competitions at a top club and country. You mentioned Ibrahimovic as better and he has never done anything for his country at Euro or World cup and never performs in the Champions league, that is why I don't respect you're opinion or take it seriously from this point onwards.

As I said Copello and Fergie are not just two of the best managers around now but of all time, with Fergie arguably being the greatest yet you know better typing away with your 'pick out the weak convenient parts' style posing.

Rooney is ahead on par and some cases ahead of Zola in terms of goals, trophies won and international caps + goals so IMO he will match the other two legends Bergkamp and Del once he is retired. Opinions are one thing but the facts speak for themselves.

23 years of age, 52 England caps 24 goals, 236 Man Untied games 97 goals and 7 trophies already. That's a decent football career no matter how you look at it. Rooney is a second striker not a main striker and as that he is one of if not THE best. Torres, Andy cole, Shearer, Les Ferdinand, fat Ronaldo, Etto and Ibra are a different type.

Why don't you go ask Tevez how he rates playing with Rooney, in fact he was moaning that Berba has played with him more. 20 goals + 20 assissts and what Rooney offers the team is invaluable, well it is to us United fans. The haters can do what they want, we'll let them go overhype a player who has never turn up in the CL yet has his manager MourineHO saying he's the best in the world. As a main striker he is far from the best in the world, Torres, Etoo are all better.

Mulvy2009, on the contary I'd suggest you have no clue about football mate. Whilst I agree Torres has been amazing
at Liverpool last 2 years and good with spain last year Rooney has achieved so much more and the others in your list are
simple a joke when compared to Rooney. At 21 Torres was a young potential and The Sun paper transfer talk favourite
(like Benzema is now), a player who had got about 14 goals per season including penalties in La Liga with Atletcio Madrid.
Rooney by contrast at 16 for Everton announced himself by firing a 30 yard goal against Arsenal in a big game along with
other top goals. He then went on at 17-18 to dominate the Euro 2004 a major international tournament getting all the top
players of the world and coaches, press and media talking about him which resulted in a massive move to United at 18 in the
summer, which he went onto score a hatrick on his debut in the UEFA Champions leaguge. Torres at 21 wasn't even playing in
the UEFA CL. Drogba was unheared of at that age despite going on to be a good target man, winning of aerial balls and
finisher in the latter stages of his career with Chelsea. Tevez is not a patch on Rooney as Fergie say's he just tries hard
and like Alan Smith who was also a fan favourite because of his never die attitude and workrate. Whilst Tevez is technically
better than Smith he does not score enough goals even for a second striker. Tevez played over 40 games, more games than
Rooney and Berbatov yet only got 5 league goals, I know for a fact he played a fair chunk of league games in that total.

Rooney is faster than Tevez, better finisher, better shooting, more creative, more skillfull, more shot power, more goals in
him, and works just as hard. Both aren't main strikers like Etoo, Ibra and Torrest they are second strikers, number 10's
like Bergkamp, Del Pierro, Zola and Cantona were. The others are main strikers or number 9's. In my opinion Wayne Rooney is
the second best number 10/second striker in the world, who else out there is better than him? Rooney will be good for 20
goals a season + 20 assissts, he outscores and out assists Tevez simply every season he has played.

Rooney is younger than all your list and Etoo and Ibramhimovic are in the latter stages of their careers whilst Rooney at
23 has much more to come and has given us so much already, done well in a mjor international tournament, done amazing goals
and MOTM performances in league games and scored some cracking goals in the UEFA Champions leauge. What has Ibrahimovic
done? He hasn't done anything at World cup or Euro and goes missing all the time in Europe, all he has done is a couple of
good season in league games in Seria A. People only rate this go or should I say over rate him because he's a FIFA 09
and Football manager game favourite. In 2 games against United he literally did nothing but win a few aerial balls it was
actually that past it, alcoholic, overweight Adriano who had their best and only decent chance in 2 legs hitting the post.
Again against Liverpool in 2 games all the TV pundits and press pointed out Zlatan as the danger guy yet he did nothing. He
is simply not a big game play and if anyone is over rated its him. Rooney has impressed on every stage and he wil play
anywehre for the team. IF Sir Alex puts him as second striker where he belong and not on the left and with a target man or
main striker then he is leathal as we are seeing with England right now in the World cup qualifiers.

For England he has 52 caps and 24 goals already and is well on the way to become one of the most capped players of all time
and breaking charltons record on top scorer. For United he has played 236 games scoring 97 goals for the biggest club in
England and the world and all by the age of just 23. He's been around for about 6 years really and could easilly achieve
another 7-10 years at the top of his game taking him to around 30-33. The guy has won 7 trophies with United already.
All I want to now is where was Henry or Van Nistelrroy at 23? Not even getting started thats what. Rooney has always been
Man United's most important player and if he was sold there really would be chaos.

The example I used of similar players to Rooney's type of Del pierro and Bergkamp, by comparison Del Pierro is 34 and has
played 91 games for Italy scoring 27 goals, he has won 14 trophies with Juventus and no can be stupid to deny he is a
legendary player of the second striker position. Bergkamp again a legendary player has retired is 40 years of age and has
played 79 games for Holland scoring 37 goals and for club has won 16 trophies. Zola played 35 games for Italy scoring 10
goals and won about 10 trophies at club level. Do I need to go on? People just seem to dislike Rooney and dislike United.

Kind of puts things in to perspective doesn't it? How can Wayne Rooney not be a top class player of his position or
any position? A player who is first choice every time for Man United and England by order of 2 of the worlds best managers
Ferguson and Copello yet people question Rooney's ability. Rooney at 23 is already ahead of many current players and
legends already and like some of those names I mentioned above no one can deny he is great to watch and capable of scoring
sensational goals.

Zlatan Imbrahimovic mr Fifa 09 Fantasy favourite has scored less goals than Rooney for country having played more than him
too (but not much more), not done anything in the Champions league and has won less trophies than Rooney. He at 4 years
older has achieved less in the game than Rooney so lets not even talk about him when on about Rooney let alone claim he's
better. Let him come over here to England in the Premiership and we'll see how good he really is, until then he better start
showing up in Euro, World cup or UEFA Champions league.
