A quieter voice on the Obama speech 9:46pm on 04 Jun 2009 P. Daou (but to the corrupt regimes that dominate that region of the world, his oration means virtually nothing) is right. "Keynote speeches" are nice. Indeed Mr. Obama is a great orator. But for the Arab and Muslim people (not the autocratic regimes that rule most Arab and Muslim states) to really expect anything postive from the US, Mr. Obama ought to change his accurate, but nevertheless weird, idea about some of them (like for an example what he said about Hosni Mubarak being "a force for stability and good"...)

Obama v Cheney 1:31pm on 23 May 2009 it is very unusual for former US presidents and VPs to express themselves openly about the policies of the sitting president. In my mind, cheney's behaviour just goes to show the vested interests that the former Huliburton executive has served and continues to serve
Pragmatic on Guantanamo - and healthcare 08:15am on 16 May 2009 O's flip-flop on Guantanamo and the legal pursuit of people who have sanctioned torture is a nice wake-up call for all those day-dreamers who gave O the benefit of ideology. He is no ideologist, he is just another politician who will say whatever necessary just to get in and then he will have his spin machine presents his flip-flops and U-turns as "pragmatic". How disappointing...
P.S. had you been a victim of torture or one of these unfortunate folks locked up in Gitmo for the past 7 years, would you still find his u-turn on military "tribunals" "pragmatic"? Please...

More philosophical question about torture 12:21pm on 25 Apr 2009 A Congress Commision that usually gets nowhere is not going to be useful. If Mr. O wants to do some justice, he then needs to demand that sll cases, in which the defendants have been subjected to torture, be revisited
