Rory Fallon - New Zealand's new sporting hero 8:49pm on 02 Dec 2009 The issue of him nearly missing out on playing for New Zealand because he played a couple of games for an England youth side is another opportunity for me to rage at FIFA. Of course rules are needed but FIFA seem to run around making up nonsense just for the sake of it. I'd love to see some common sense in football but it's all too rare.

Rory Fallon - New Zealand's new sporting hero 2:20pm on 02 Dec 2009 Good to see Fallon doing well for himself, though he was never particularly good for us and was in the team when we were relegated. Interestingly you mentioned we signed David Mulligan but not Leo Bertos who supplied the cross for Fallon. It was a bit of a surprise to see these three playing at the ConfederationsCcup, and I'm sure a lot of Barnsley fans will watch their games at the world cup out of curiosity. Have to say though, I'd like to be drawn against them.

Huddersfield's young guns heading to the top 1:59pm on 24 Nov 2009 The problem with signing so many youngsters is that if they do get promoted they may struggle at a higher level. Town have two of our (Barnsley) ex-academy players, Robbie Williams and Antony Kay, both seemed to struggle at Championship level after we were promoted (though Williams never got much of a chance). Having young players with a lot of pace and drive can reap huge rewards in lower leagues, but they can often get found out by genuine quality when they step up.

How important are big sports events to a country's identity? 00:21am on 17 Nov 2009 I think the Olympics will be a fantastic event and will really be something for the nation to get behind and enjoy. The success of Team GB in Beijing was brilliant for the entire country, the celebrations after the Rugby World Cup win in 2003 and the Ashes win in 2005 show that the country really comes together in celebrating sporting achievements. Coupled with the Queen's diamond jubilee celebrations I'm sure 2012 will be a tremendous lift which after the recent past I'm sure we could all do with.

People want to feel a part of these Olympics, which is one of the reasons I feel there was so much backlash against the Olympic logo (aside from the cost it took to design). People felt that it was out of touch and they dearly want these to be OUR games, a celebration of Britain.

Your comment about how Morgan feels as a person is an interesting one. As I've already said, I don't believe he intended to do Hume any real damaage. It was a clumsy challenge but clumsy challenges are a part of foorball. From my perspective as a Barnsley fan Morgan was playing in a local derby against his former club, a town in which he still lives. I doubt Morgan wanted to hurt Hume, just play with a level of physicality befitting such a scenario. A physicality that we Barnsley fans had no problem with when he was playing for us. Morgan has been vilified by many Barnsley fans because they believe he intentionally set out to do it. Whilst I can understand that position, I disagree.

What I do believe however is that Morgan's actions were negligent. By sticking his arm out he exhibited a lack of professionalism, the F.A.'s respect the ref was criticised by MPs after the incident because why should players respect the referee when there's no respect for your opponent? I'd suggest the FA should introduce a charge of "reckless play" which can be brought after the game. Similar to what Steve Clarige suggested on the Football League show this week.

On Hume's actual recovery with no disrespect I don't actually find it all that remarkable. I'm sure that being the professional he is there was no way Hume would not have made a return, unless doctors had told him he could not. It's a shame Morgan didn't show the same sort of professionalism when he went in with the elbow.

/15 Morgan did not set out to injure Hume. Centrebacks have always used their elbows in football and they always will. As I said before, if Morgan had intended to injure Hume then he'd be facing charges of attempted murder. What we have here is what in the US is called "reckless endangerment".
