Brown and markets 09:50am on 30 Sep 2009 For a prudent chancelor he was very imprudent. He oversaw a boom time and instead of saving or at least trying to balance to books in preparation for a rainy day, he carried on spending like there was no tommorow, having persuaded himself that we would no longer have boom and bust. Thank goodness some of us didnt believe him!

The man is either a LIAR or a FOOL. Growth has to be based on either natural resources (coal etc), increased demand ( a finite commodity based on wealth and need) or improved efficiency, since it is almost impossible to have any of these continually it is inevitable that growth will not be constaint.
The what and when of spending cuts 12:37pm on 14 Sep 2009 Well it looks like we are having another labour u turn on cuts! Is it that they didnt understand how big a hole there is or that they didnt understand basic economics? Either way they are clearly incompetent and it is time they went!
The real G20 breakthrough 10:15am on 07 Sep 2009 No matter how you look at it lending 70 times your core capital cannot be anything but high risk. Who in their right mind would take out a loan at that level? Surely this has to be corrected as much as the risk taking with hedge funds? Even just 26 years ago I had to justify to the building society that I had saved with for the last 12 years why I needed a 90% mortgage by explaining that as it was my first house I would need furnature and it was cheeper to get a bigger mortgage than buying it on HP and show that I had sone the sums on how I would cover my repayments. A daunting task for an 18 year old, but it did really make me think about what I was getting in to. Perhaps a return to that would be no bad thing.
Treasury forecasts £77bn loan losses for Lloyds and RBS 10:51am on 22 Jul 2009 if lending decisions have been this poor how is it that a) the banks are not nationaised entirely or b) the entire management sacked? If any other business that would have been the case, yet these guys are not only still drawing a significant wage but also some bonuses!
I could operate trains 11:38am on 01 Jul 2009 Right so once again it is heads you win tails I loose for the government. Whoever agreed to and set up these privitisations should be publicly vilified and sacked from what ever they are currently doing.

good job the postoffice semi privitisation has been delayed - may just give them time to come up with something that is not biased against tax payers. I WISH!
Paternoster and what to expect of non-execs 08:55am on 01 Jul 2009 I was always under the impression that the reason for having non execs was that comming from a different field they would have a wider view of the world. Perhaps there should be a rule that they must be from totally different industries to balance the total 'group think' that has hold of the ruling classes in the city and westminster. Hum city banks with engineers as non execs now that may be interesting!
Royal Mail: The rescue is in the post 12:56pm on 29 Jun 2009 Sigh! the words pissup and brewery spring to mind!

I cannot believe that we are paying this shower anything for such poor planning and decision avoidance!

Lets hope that the reprieve is put to good use by the post office to find a way of making a new role for itself in a changing market.
Tories to give sweeping new powers to Bank 11:57am on 24 Jun 2009 They can regulate all they like, at the end of the day anything that has an impact on tax income in these proportions is a political decision.

So unless the regulator has the power and the courage to over ride that we will find ourselves in this position again. OR it has to be a legal requirement.

Personally I cant see either happening so we are doomed to a weak and ineffectual system - again
Spanking bank investors 10:59am on 04 Jun 2009 Robert surely the issue is that a lot of the tier 2 funding is provided by other financial institutions which would be in the mire themselves if payment was stopped? So I would suggest that it was probably a political decison to continue paying it to try and limit the spread of rot to the entire financial services industry.
