All's fair in the climate blame game 4:56pm on 06 Nov 2009 It is extremely re-assuring that from the comments made not everybody has swallowed the now religion like mantra that is the climate change industry.Perhaps the BBC could allow themselves to listen to alternative views and heaven forbid, actually give them some real air time.
I don`t claim to be a scientist but neither have I suspended common sense when dealing with this subject. Most people know that waste is not to be encouraged, equally most people know that increases in CO2 postdate temperature rises not precede them, can we please have a proper debate on the issue, without the BBC busing in their own army of eco warriors,most of whom are paid for by the hapless and increasingly powerless licence payer

The New Capitalism 4:42pm on 09 Dec 2008 If as you assert that you raised your various causes for concern over 2 years ago, should we have confidence in the Government or more particulaly The Bank of England ,which has only acted in the last 6 weeks. Dramatic debt reduction and arresting asset price decline require low interest rates....clearly The B of E have only just realised this fact.....safe hands or the blind leading the blind!!!
Crunch: A new phase 4:12pm on 13 Nov 2008 The latest events are proof positive that you either accept the consequences of a free market or you think you can intervene with neverending and re-curring problems. Politicians, remote central bankers should never intervene as they have, they are trying to maintain the "status quo" which is clearly flawed and should be replaced by whatever the market comes up with.

Would the global banking industry have imploded if all those banks in trouble had not been rescued? In fact why would an industry clearly in such poor condition merit saving, surely the survival of the fittest is not only a law of capitalism but in this case a kindness to a fatally wounded beast.
The rising taxpayer burden 2:19pm on 11 Nov 2008 I think this latest Vw move proves the point that politicians should leave the market to get on with it, irrespective of what they think the consequences will be. Politicians have no understanding of real life or business, they wouldn`t be a politician if they did, why do you beleive them (or bankers ) when they predict disaster unless they act, of course they would say that wouldn`t they.

By interfereing with the free market they have justified their existance for years to come ,while real people and businesses sort out the problem (I exclude Banks) as they will undoubtedly make things worse!!!
What Mervyn didn't say 2:37pm on 22 Oct 2008 No mention of derivatives or the fact that Banks used them as insurance against debt,thus loosening their dilligence when lending money,I don`t accept that the Banks should have been rescued as they were, it was all too easy for them.

As a small businessman I can only rely on myself, why should I risk mt Tax on Banks who clearly were reckless and greedy and who will no doubt seek to re-build their businesses on the back of overcharging the likes of me.

Next time the Taxman wants his money should I refer him to Mervyn King, after all he has taxpayers money coming out of his ears!!!
Blame is the Spur 4:57pm on 20 Oct 2008 I used to be a season ticket holder,with my two adult sons,but this season we did not renew.We all felt that the team after the Carling Cup just didn`t care and it showed on the pitch. At the end of the season we were sent renewal notices showing an11 % increase for settlement by7th June. It was obvious that an early renewal would be followed by the sale of Berba, demonstrating the Club`s limited horisons.

That they also sold Keane, Malbranque,etc was unbeleivable,destroying the basis of a team that on it`s day could and did (with Berba) beat the top clubs.I have long beleived that the destruction of Martin Jol`s team has more to do with Joe Lewis needing cash than anything else, Spurs are a sad shadow of MJ`s team and without much doubt will be relegated, possibly repeating the achievements of Leeds Utd. Regretfully I am pleased to have saved £1050 for my season ticket.
Struggling Spurs still attract financial interest 12:56pm on 30 Sep 2008 As a former season ticket holder at Spurs I am pleased that I declined to renew this season despite the modest inflation beating rise of "only 11%", after last seasons abject displays post the Carling Cup the team have if nothing else been consistantly bad. I am convinced that Lewis needs to sell, to take a bath on Bear Stearns of £400 million, even if you are supposed to be worth 2 billion would cause serious grief.....I also think that his predicament was responsible for breaking up a good team and selling the best players...not a good move in such a fiercely competitative league, how much will Spurs be worth as a Championship Club?
Gordon gets personal 2:05pm on 23 Sep 2008 I think ,as always , that politicians and commentators seriously underestimate the good sense and judgement of the Public. It is perfectly clear, and has been since early autumn 2007 that Gordon Brown is at best a number 2, never a number 1, his predecessor ,war criminal and all looks good against sad old Gordon...he is and will always be out of his depth, very much like John Major. Perhaps that is the only similarity between Blair and Thatcher in that they both left the hotseat to morons.....Mageret Thatcher because she was betrayed by her party....Blair because he could..
'House prices to fall a quarter' 3:17pm on 09 Sep 2008 The Nationwide boss is probably right if you allow for the froth on the market in July/August last year, the issue of reviving the market is crushingly simple...interest rates....when consumers see price falls and markedly lower interest rates then they will step back into the market. In simple terms property has to be perceived as cheap and easy to buy, that is not the case yet, but I think the bottom of the correction is only a few months away.
