Bonus culture lives 09:54am on 15 May 2009 Three points:
1. Where would all these 'talented' individuals go if there were no bonus culture to tempt them?
2. Why are the brightest and the best necessarily also the greediest?
3. If the brightest and best are only attracted by money why do politicians go into politics - couldn't be the money, surely?
Tories to break up banks? 3:38pm on 08 Apr 2009 This is a step in the right direction. These sentiments should apply to ALL sectors of industry. Not just banking and not just the UK. Business has gotten so big that their budgets are bigger than most of the countries that they operate in and are far too powerful. It is not good for citizens or consumers.
Trouble is, I don't trust the Tories to carry this through when their mates are the bankers and chairmen who will be most affected.

Yes we need world class banks and bankers but those in charge now have been criminally inept and must be eliminated from the banking world. If we leave things as they stand you are advocating that we put our faith in a bunch of self centred petty crminals.
The banks must be reformed so that we can trust them again or are you really advocating that we go back to the bad old times with the same old cronies?
Lloyds and HBOS humbled 2:08pm on 14 Feb 2009 This just goes to show that the whole of the financial sector is both corrupt AND incompetent. Shouldn't some of those knighthoods get taken back at the very least?
Daniels sacrifices bonus 08:50am on 11 Feb 2009 They should be facing charges for criminal negligence and possible jail sentences. They clearly don't give a damn and would do it again if the chance arose.
Everything will change 4:51pm on 31 Jan 2009 Once again we have 'experts' telling us where we have gone wrong and where and how we are going to suffer. Why should we believe ANYTHING they say? These are the 'experts' who let this situation arise in the first place. Why weren't they screaming at the bankers to stop doing what they were doing?
Growth, growth, growth, more money to their mates, the bankers. Must get back to how it was or their kids won't be going to public school anymore and they'll have to sell the second home in France.
A great lesson for any kids watching - grab as much as you can, screw everybody else and the victims will thank you an bail you out.

Varley: credit to shrink for up to two years 1:27pm on 20 Dec 2008 Er, isn't this one of the guys that failed completely to see the crash coming (can't find ANY quotes from him warning us). Of course why should he worry - he only trousered £35Mill last year.
Why should we trust anything these clowns tell us - look at their track record.

All change at RBS 6:13pm on 12 Oct 2008 First of all I need to state that I don't understand banking or the financial world but it does seem to me that lending money to people who you are pretty sure can't pay it back is a pretty serious dereliction of duty. To then speculate on the various loans is nothing short of lunacy.
I seem to recall asking various 'professionals' how this business model differed from pass the parcel and what happens when the music stops,without ever getting a satisfying reply.
To now discover that not only is nobody facing criminal prosecution but that those responsible are still receiving bonuses beggars belief.
Banking is clearly too important to be left to bankers.
Do prescription charges make us sick? 9:55pm on 01 Oct 2008 Nothing we get from the NHS is free, we actually pay quite a lot for the service. As for the argument that people are asking for ridiculous items on prescriptions just because they are free I think that:
1. This would be a tiny minority as most people are sensible (yes really) and
2. The doctors should just say no when asked to prescribe.
3. Some people are really struggling and the difference between a free item and a paid for one makes a god deal of difference on a low budget.
