I wonder if those that criticised you, for bring a Brit in the US and commenting on US 'issues' that only a US citizen/national would know about, follow you?

I now live outside of the UK....i went back for the first time in 3 years recently. Very very odd, not the place it was...no one seemed to be happy or smiling...endless bureaucracy...everything has become expensive (not as expensive as here in Japan).

Still..helps to broaden the horizons :)
Should Poms be denied the vote? 11:41am on 24 Jun 2009 Should it not be a case of, if i pay taxes, live in the community etc, then why should i not be granted some say in how my taxes are spent? Otherwise why should i part with my hard earned money?

This is really only applicable to those with permanent residency status, ie not transients. As such anyone with permanent status, regardless of their citizenship should be granted a vote. I pay tax, ergo i vote on how it's spent.

However the corollary should be, if said person is from the UK, they must relinquish their voting right in the UK.

Why does being a "permanent resident" allow the govt to take money from you but not allow you the right to say how it is spent...and more importantly, how your life is governed.

Having a passport with Australia on it, how does that make it any different from British, but with remains to stay indefinitely in Oz?

If you go to wimbledon.org you can pay the subscription and watch live streaming. That's how I watch it here in Japan...

Is being world No.1 continuously for 4 1/2 years, being in some 19~20 semi/finals of grand slams in a row, winning 14 grand slam titles in roughly half the time of P.Sampras, just for startes, not dominant enough for you?
Joy and pain in Paris 10:56am on 09 Jun 2009 I am in Japan and i watch WOW-WOW!...yes bizarre name too. Mind you, they only show the semi's and the finals live. Everything else is a delayed telecast, very disappointing, no idea why?! Also no dual language commentary. When the Masters series is shown on another channel, i can listen to J.H et al in English, flicking my dual language button...but not with WOW-WOW :(

However, concur, Federer, one of the most complete players ever, if not the most complete. Pure pleasure to watch. The quote from Matts Wilander is rather poignant too.

I suspect now that he has RG and the big 14th, he will relax and perhaps play some seriously awesome tennis free of the mental burdens and conflicts in his own mind of not having them. He can be free and play with such relaxation since anything from now on, is just a bonus! This could be the spring board for even more from the already greatest ever player...I'm salivating at the thought of even more brilliance and magic.

Since you're in the UK i would thought "you got the point". But i don't think you have.

It is not so much what he did, but that he is allowed to do it. Regardless whether one agrees with the students actions or not, he is allowed to protest in any way shape or form, so long as it is not against the law.

In a free democratic society not all comments are good or friendly. Such actions often pique those it is aimed at, if so, then the protest has achieved its objective. If not, then it is quickly forgotten.

The only objection that anyone should have is that both were invited guests at Cambridge Uni, as guests, they should both exorcise decorum and etiquette. Clearly the student didn't, that is regrettable.

Hard to engage in real dialogue if basic rules of decorum are not observed!
The Semi-Attacked Politicians' Club 12:59pm on 03 Feb 2009 I think it is perfectly acceptable for the Chinese Govt to complain, since it is their right in a free and democratic country, as the UK.
But to call is despicable is insulting to a Democratic country and its Govt.
Can you imagine what the reaction would be if Gordon Brown was prevented from speaking his own mind inside China on a state visit...would the Chinese accept the censorship of being despicable??

It is good to encourage the Chinese premier to voice his objections, it will just highlight the hypocrisy further when the corollary is pointed out to him

I was in Tehran recently and when having a few mins spare with my client i asked why do all the men wear moustaches?...he replied, it is seen as sign or macho or courage. How so i ask, he said that it comes from the days when the early explorers to Persia, mainly british, all the men had beards/moustaches. They saw this as a sign or bravery and appered to copy it...strange huh.
So perhaps in your 65 page flip book, only half would have a moustache??
