Man City come out of the darkness 10:52am on 07 Dec 2009 It may have only been one game, but still City remain the only team in the top flight to have lost once, and are clearly a hard team to beat. They have quality across the park, and depth in the squad - so only a blinkered doubter would believe that they can not contend with the top 4 this season.
Lost 4-3 to Utd in a crazy game, beat Arsenal 4-2, drew away to Liverpool, beat Chelsea 2-1. If thats not top 4 form, then what is? Spurs are sitting pretty after having something of an easy run of games, and will surely fall away as the season continues.

City to get 3 wins a row, and then it will start to get interesting... :)

Are sportspeople right to retaliate? 12:58pm on 08 Oct 2009 It seems the crowds at a football match can say/shout or chant whatever they want as long as it is not racist or homophobic etc. Surely then the same rules should apply to those on the pitch. Adebayors celebration was a man sliding on his knees on the field of play. A statement that said 'I'll let my football do the talking' - nothing malicious, nothing racist, nothing violent. And yet because of the idiocy of a few Arsenal fans who i thought were happy to see the back of him (?) Adebayor is the villain. What a shambles.

Bellamy shouldnt have hit the guy who came on the pitch, but if the guy comes on the pitch he has to expect to be physically confronted and removed by either the security (who let him on the pitch to begin with) or anyone else there looking to proceed with the game as everyone wants. 2 wrongs dont make a right, but if a player were to enter the stands surely they woudl be banned too - as it is not their domain and have no need to be there. Cross the line, you get whats coming to you.

Adebayor didnt retaliate, he played football and celebrated on the pitch where he is allowed to do so. If infront of the Arsenal fans, then so be it. If intentional to get back at them so be it. I thought it was class, as he showed them what they had lost and thats why they hated the situation so much. Their loss, Citys gain. Boo hoo Arsenal...
Man City challenge is no fake 1:32pm on 06 Oct 2009 City are genuine contenders to finish 3rd this season - behind Chelsea and Utd. Man-for-man they can match up to any team in the Premiership, but as a new team winning it is beyond them for this season anyway. Although it shouldnt be ignored that they dont have the midweek energy-sapping European fixtures to also play, and so anything could happen, but is unlikely...

Once they do get Champions League though, they will need to further strengthen the squad and then the big names who have elluded them and who many laughed at before may just come running.

Good luck to City - this doesnt seem the one of the many false dawns of old... :)
Do former athletes make the best coaches? 09:44am on 09 Apr 2009 I think there is a sort of inbuilt and totally unfair suspicion of any players who becomes coaches. There is no reason why a great player can not have the managerial skills to become an excellent coach or manager - but the media seems to target this notion of 'players cant become managers' which only adds to their pressure and begins the witchhunt from day one.

For example: Martin Johnson was an amazing Captain who commanded respect the world over. For him to transfer to becoming a Manager is by no means a step beyond him - but it will take/and is taking time. Alan Shearer is the only man for the Newcastle job because they need something of a miracle - and so the outside bet is their only option. Also he is in a win-win situation there, and so he is the only person who could lead the team without scrutiny and ridiculous pressure. he will forever be a god there - irrespective of what happens.

A Manager to a certain extent is only as good as the players he has to choose from afterall. If the players/sprinter/whoever arent simply good enough - then it is their fault, not the scape-goated boss. I applaud the Middlesborough Chairman for standing by Southgate, as sacking him wouldnt help - but backing him might..

Hugely respected, much admired... but loved? 1:44pm on 13 Jan 2009 His stats speak for themselves, and being arguably one of the greatest opening batsmen of all-time - he retirement is a loss to the game surely? Only those supporting the opposition will be glad that Hayden is no longer marching out to rough them up a little.

With a more graceful stroke he wouldnt be far off Viv Richards. But everyone loves Viv, although on the pitch he showed more contempt for the bowlers than possibly anyone. Hayden did the same, just not quite with the charm and swagger. But then he's a batsman, and let his cricket alone do the talking. His Harbhajan comments were well made - a thoroughly dislikeable character..
The right move for Robinho? 10:22am on 03 Sep 2008 I am a City fan for my sins, and have been now for over 15 years - and I would whole heartedly disagree with the notion that the team can not break into the top four to make a top five within the next few years. The proof being that it can be done is obviously Chelsea, who like City will no doubt do, bought anyone and everyone with a hefty price tag and then over a couple of years matured into the now excellent side who no longer needs to buy big, as the success for the club will attract quality players that work with the playing formula - Deco for £8m is a recent example of this.

City will undoubtedly stutter, and will overpay for players that will essentially fail in the make-up of the team (as with Shevchenko, Veron etc etc - not an uncommon occurence), they will also have everyone wanting them/waiting for them to slip up - but in Mark Hughes they have a manager who is in for the longhaul, as he was at Blackburn where he created a solid team. Not a Premierhsip winning one, but a solid one no less, which with extra spending power may have been better given the consistent spine they have - and Im sure he will bring this to City.

A solid base of Dunne, Richards, Elano, Wright-Phillips, Johnson and now Robinho and Jo upfront is no mean line-up, then it will be about building around them a dynamic team (we need a hatchet man in midfield for instance - quite badly, although Hamman will do for now) and there is no reason why we then cant compete with Carragher, Gerard and Torres? or Gallas, Fabregas and Adebayor? Im not going to say Utd or Chelsea, as they are a class above everyone else - but breaking into the Top Four within the next two years and finishing higher than Liverpool or Arsenal is certainly achievable given our current squad and the buying power we now have.

Still think an almost direct copy of the Brazil kit for our away colours should be the next move... no reason why not afterall!
