No other stadium with that kind of history? Really? Seems to conveniently ignore the fact that the last World Cup stadium witnessed the legendary Jesse Owens Olympic performance - and a certain Adolf Hitler was there. I'd think that would a historical figure on par with Mandela as far as fame (or infamy) goes.....

If I'm not mistaken, the competition at the Lakeside is the BDO World Championship - therefore it has every right to call its winner a world champion.
We have different organisations in boxing, and each of their belt holders is referred to as a world champion, so why not with darts too?

Both world darts organisations offer something different and their matches can be equally exciting - or equally boring. Get over it and be thankful that there's a wealth of opportunities to watch darts on terrestrial AND Sky.
Review of the week 2:14pm on 29 Oct 2008 'Arry's record is, and always has been, pretty poor. His dealings in the transfer market have been decidely dodgy and his only saving grace seems to be that - gawd bless 'im - he's a true grit, "proper" English manager.
Well, if by "proper" you mean a shady wide-boy willing to take backhanders, bring in dodgy foreigners/washed up has-beens into his squads and bemoan the demise of the good-old English sport, I'm glad that even the clueless crusties at the FA turned him down for the national job.

What he DOES excel at, however, is backstabbing and gross hypocrisy. He's double-crossed Portsmouth twice and left Southampton in a mess they still haven't extracted themselves from.

My one hope for last season was that they would get turned over by Cardiff in the FA Cup, as the useless Cockney does not deserve to have a major trophy success on his resume. As it is, they scraped through in both the semis and the final and, lo and behold, 'Arry finally gets that elusive and totally undeserved silverware that somehow justifies him as the man to take Spurs forward.

Utter cobblers. The man's a joke and it's a telling sign that the one media commentator who seems to be his biggest fan at the moment is.........his own son. Take a bow Jamie for even having the audacity to compare your old man to Sir Bobby Robson. More like Linda Robson if you ask me.
London 2012 starts to feel the pinch 1:28pm on 02 Oct 2008 Re LordSUPERFRED:

Exactly what World War was taking place in 1908 then? I'm not the greatest of historians but I'm pretty certain that WW1 took place a good few years after the first London Olympics was staged.

As for the suggestion that another country should have staged the 2012 Games - why, eaxctly? Britian will still host a decent event, despite the financial meltdown, and it's not going to bankrupt the economy.
If we can find billions to spend on sending troops across the world, I'm sure the powers that be can find some extra cash to help out a sporting occasion that will put us back on the global map.
The charm of the Championship 4:07pm on 22 Jul 2008 There are too many teams this year with a shot at winning the Championship. It's almost impossible to definitely say who will be promoted at the end of the season.
Compared with the Premier League (Man U or Chelsea for the title yet again....zzzzz...zzzz...), it's far a more exciting prospect for fans.

Birmingham have got a great chance of going back up, and I think Wolves, Palace and the two Sheffield teams will be in with a shout of a top 6 place. I can also see Forest and Norwich being good dark horse bets this year, although I think Bristol City will find it hard to repeat their achievements last year.
As an embittered Coventry fan who can remember the days when there were no parachute payments for relegated teams, I hope at least two of the clubs who came down from the Premiership end up toiling in the league this year. I find it ridiculous that clubs who overspend in the face of relegation have this back-up system in place to spare their blushes when they fail to survive in the big league.
However, with Coleman getting his first full season in charge and with a team of good young players I reckon we can make a push for a play-off spot this year. Unless we do what we've done for the past eight years and sack our manager before the end of the season...
