24 hours with Ubuntu 09:17am on 27 Oct 2009 Everyone (including the BBC) keep calling the operating system Linux. Linux is the name of the OS kernel. All of the other software which comes with Linux to make it into an operating system is called a distribution.

All of this extra software is widely available for other open source operating systems such as FreeBSD. Much of it is also available for the Mac OS.

Ubuntu is not based on Linux, it is a Linux distribution. Ubuntu is actually based upon Debian Linux!
Historic day for Broadband Britain? 5:24pm on 03 Mar 2009 BT need to be downgraded into just another service operator. Alternatives are desperately needed to BT as they are too slow to react to the latest technology.

They've held back the speed and quality of broadband in the UK for decades now.

Apple are eating into Microsoft's desktop market as are Linux distributions.

The market Microsoft wants to do well in is online advertising.
McCain's lost battle 11:51am on 05 Nov 2008 I think neither candidate seemed to put across their aims and how they would change America. Obama made good inspiring speeches with no real detail. McCain just criticised Obama.

Although obviously in the UK we don't get as much detail on the policies.

Less private involvement in government and public services would be welcome. They're only interested in making money, not providing a quality service.

McCain seems like too much of a hot head and the US has had too much of that style of leadership.
Humbling of our banks 08:37am on 13 Oct 2008 I'm sure a few billion could be raised by cost cutting and cutting back salaries. But obviously the banks won't do this even though everyone else who is struggling in these uncertain times is doing so.
