Liverpool make Ferguson suffer 11:36am on 17 Mar 2009 Like a lot of Man Utd fans I had to bite the bullet before I joined this thread. I expected Liverpool fans to rub our noses in it, but I've been pleasantly surprised. You Liverpool fans have blown a golden opportunity. What I've read here from you lot is borderline hysteria. I've often heard that Scousers are funny people, and this thread has confirmed it. You've really cheered me up. I've almost got over Saturday. Thanks a lot, Scousers, and keep it up.
I have to say there are some fine comedians at Old Trafford too. SAF "We were the better team" and Bobby Charlton "we felt the pressure of winning so many games" (I still can't work that one out!)
But most Man Utd fans here have accepted we deserved to lose, praised Liverpool, but questioned the fairness of the scoreline. What do we get? Howls of protest from Scousers accusing us of being "bitter" and "sore losers" etc. You seem to have forgotten that even your beloved Steven Gerrard admitted the scoreline flattered Liverpool. What does that make StevieG in your twisted worldview? A traitor?
You expect Man utd fans to come here, praise Liverpool, but not mention the performance of our own team. We're not even supposed to CRITICISE our own players! Just praise Liverpool and King Rafa. Some of these same Liverpool fans wanted Rafa'a head not long ago, now he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. He "out-thought" SAF. Maybe so, but doesn't that mean Gareth Southgate "out-thought" Rafa a couple of weeks ago?
I never thought I would see the day when Liverpool fans would get all bent out of shape because Man Utd fans criticised Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. It's pathetic... and a sure sign of weakness, despite your great victory on Saturday. Deep down, you know it won't make a difference. You've looked at the league table; you see the list of Premier League champions: Man Utd 10, Arsenal 3, Chelsea 2, Blackburn 1... and Liverpool zilch, zero, nada.
I expect to come here and witness undiluted joy from Liverpool fans, but I was wrong. What I've seen is Liverpool fans - even in the aftermath of a great victory over their fiercest rivals - still more bitter than we are. And yes, we ARE bitter, but we'll quickly get over it. You lot won't. You have nineteen years of hurt... and counting.

I've read right though this thread and the vast majority of Man Utd fans have conceded that Liverpool deserved to win. But that's not good enough for the Scousers. We must not mention United's defensive shortcomings. You seem to think all four Liverpool goals were superbly executed like Carlton Cole's goal for West Ham last week. Rio and Vidic had nothing to do with any of them, apparently.
If you think Liverpool are three goals better than United then you must accept that Middlesbrough are two goals better than you. If Liverpool really are three goals better than United then you would be well clear at the top or United would be below West Brom. Get a grip on reality, why don't you.
Also, what is all this garbage about United fans coming from Croydon (Post #129)? Aren't there any Liverpool fans in Croydon, then? Look, there are millions of United fans outside Greater Manchester and there are millions of Liverpool fans outside Merseyside. What exactly is your point? I've never been to Croydon, but I was in Cardiff a few weeks ago and saw quite a few Liverpool shirts. Last time I checked, Cardiff isn't in Merseyside. This "southern United glory hunter" schtick is getting old.
Liverpool fans are rightly enjoying themselves this week, but don't get too cocky. Remember, the real score, the score that really counts and really sticks in your craw is United 10 - Liverpool 0.
Come May and it'll be 11-0.
P.S. Some Liverpool fans seem to think you're entitled to win the league because you did the double over us. Well, hard luck. I don't think the FA are going to suddenly change the rules at this point, do you? It's a sure sign of desperation. You know, deep down, that United will not be caught and you're clutching at straws. We'll stuff Fulham (again) next week and you'll slip up against Villa. Normal service will be resumed.

Liverpool make Ferguson suffer 1:19pm on 15 Mar 2009 The Liverpool fans here - along with Phil - are outraged that we ManU fans aren't heaping undiluted praise on Liverpool. If we point out Vidic's mistake for the Torres goal, for example, we get howls of protest from the other side. Yes, Torres did briliantly to take the chance. But had Vidic headed the ball to Van der Sar - as he could easily have done - Torres' pace and strength wouldn't have come into it.
When we point out that Liverpool's first two contraversial goals against Madrid killed the game, we are accused of being ungracious.
Look, we're Man Utd fans. We're not interested in making Liverpool fans feel better than they do already. That's not our job. If Liverpool had lost 4-1 yesterday and defended like muppets, I think their fans here would be trying to make sense of it all, as we are.
I don't think any of us dispute that Liverpool thoroughly deserved their victories this week... apart from Fergie, of course; but he's probably not taking part in this thread.

The one that finishes with the most points at the end of the season. Do you think Liverpool deserves to win the league having failed to beat the likes of Stoke, Fulham, West Ham and Hull at Anfield? Do you think a team that loses 0-2 to Middlesbrough - on current form the worst team in the league - deserves to win the title? If we take your argument to its logical conclusion then Derby County deserves to finish above United in the league... and Boro and Spurs should be ahead of Liverpool.
Man City did the double over us last season so I suppose that makes them world champions, right?
Someone else here criticised United for all the 1-0 wins. I suggest you look closely at the league table. We still have the best goal difference and are joint top scorers (with a game in hand). Clearly, we aren't winning all our games 1-0. We beat Chelsea 3-0 for a start! We beat Stoke 5-0. Liverpool failed to score against Stoke in two games.
Liverpool deserve a lot of praise for their two performances this week, but don't get too cocky. The first two goals against Madrid were a joke. A clear foul by Torres for the first goal followed by a ridiculous penalty decision. Game over. As for yesterday, that was the worst defensive performance by a ManU team for many a year. It was bound to happen after going so long without conceding. It's like waiting an hour for a bus and then four come along at once.
Liverpool will always have a team capable of beating anyone on their day and will always have a shot at the Champions' League and the domestic cups;, but you won't win the title this year, next year or the year after.
All you did yesterday was open the door for Chelsea.
Liverpool make Ferguson suffer 10:12am on 15 Mar 2009 When United scored I thought we would cruise to victory. We were going for the second goal and it looked as if it wouldn't be long coming. Then Vidic handed Liverpool the equaliser on a plate.
Don't panic, United fans. Rafa talks about winning the last nine games. Well, that ain't gonna happen. Liverpool will drop points, as sure as night follows day. Probably against the likes of Fulham and Blackburn over the next few weeks.
Chelsea are still the biggest threat. Yesterday's result at OT was far more important to them. But we'll comfortably hold off Chelsea.
I remember years ago when United lost 5-0 at Newcastle. The following week we went down to Southampton and got thumped 6-3. We also lost our next league game at home to Chelsea. The press were predicting United were finished. The defense appeared to be shot to pieces. Well, United went on to win the league by seven points.
I take nothing away from Liverpool. Unlike Wayne Rooney, I don't hate them. They were magnificent, as they were on Tuesday. We should have seen yesterday's result coming. United were very lucky gainst Blackburn a couple of weeks ago, lucky against Inter on Wednesday; but the luck ran out on Saturday.
It was the kick up the backside we needed, and we'll go on to win the title with ease. It won't 'go to the wire'.
But we won't win everything. We can't anyway. Everyone seems to have forgotten that we lost the European SuperCup to Zenit St. Petersburg. The clean sweep is already out of the question.
Liverpool must go for broke 1:50pm on 13 Mar 2009 The game at Old Trafford tomorrow is vital for one team... and that's Chelsea. If Liverpool win at OT, so what? They'll lose to Villa next weekend and drop points to teams like Fulham and Blackburn over the next few weeks.
Liverpool won't win the league this year, next year or the year after. Chelsea are the only team that can catch ManU this season. If United win tomorrow and Chelsea slip up against the new world's richest club on Sunday, the title race will be all over; and it's only the middle of March!

Australia has a massive chip on it's collective shoulder, especially when it comes to the 'mother country'.
They are the GDR of the southern hemisphere. The East Germans thought that regularly topping the Olympic medal table made them a great country.
It didn't. Not even close.
Am I saying Australia is a totalitarian communist state? Of course not. There is no Stasi in Australia. There is a similarity, however, when it comes to heavy state investment in sport. I seem to recall that after their poor performance at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane the government decided to take action. State funded sports academies sprouted all over the country. Just because they finished behind England in the medal table! We saw the same reaction this Olympic year. It's deeply pathetic. They are the world's worst losers. Exhibit A: their reaction to losing the Rugby League World Cup Final to New Zealand. They talk about 'whingeing poms' but the Aussies take the cake.

I remember Barry Humphries once said that Australians have an inferiority complex towards the British... and that it was entirely justified!
Excelling at sports doesn't make you a great nation. Australia is, and always has been, a global backwater.

European hangover set to linger 7:49pm on 26 Nov 2008 As a Welshman I envy Scotland's success in Europe.
Scotland has for years punched above its weight in European football. Scotland has a population of 5 million... one tenth of England's. Even Denmark has a bigger population, but Danish clubs have had very little success.
It's already been pointed out above that Rangers reached the UEFA Cup Final just six months ago. Celtic held European Champions Manchester United just a couple of weeks ago and beat then in 2006.
Having said all that, Scotland has a problem domestically that may have an adverse effect on its European fortunes. Have a look at the SPL table. It's a two-horse race already and it's still only November.
Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen, Dundee United, etc. have got to challenge the Old Firm more than they have in recent years.

But I have to say I'm embarrassed by the British fans. Their moronic chanting makes me cringe. What must the Americans make of these idiots? I watched the weigh-in last night and had to hit the mute button when they started chanting "There's only one Ricky Hatton"... as if we didn't know that already!
It's bad enough that the football chanting spread to cricket (Barmy Army) but now it's happening to boxing.
Worst of all was the booing of the US anthem before the Hatton/Mayweather fight. We saw a similar disgraceful performance in Berlin on Wednesday night (I don't mean the England team, of course).
My message to my fellow Brits is this: please try to think about the image of this country that you are projecting around the world. Grow up!
Perfect time for Joe to go 12:45pm on 10 Nov 2008 Joe's win over Jeff Lacy is his best performance by a mile. Let's be honest; Hopkins and Jones were way past their prime, and Joe was lucky to get the decision against Hopkins.
Although he won fair and square against Kessler last year, the Dane's punches were far more hurtful than Calzaghe's. The Dane will win if they fight again.
Joe is a good fighter but greatly overestimated. What sets him apart from his rivals is his incredible work rate. He threw nearly 1000 punches against Jones.

btw two fighters called Calzaghe and Jones, one of them is Welsh.... and it isn't Jones!

Quit now, Joe. If you haven't earned enough money there are other ways to earn some more. With his good looks and personality he could be a TV celeb of some sort.
