They only got Robinho because he'd burnt his bridges at Real and Chelsea couldn't match their offer. Aside from him, the players they've signed have been from clubs of similar stature.

The attempts to sign superstars on silly wages seem to be nothing more than a PR exercise- to give the impression that they're some sort of European super power, while the club are actually signing the likes of Bellamy and Santa Cruz.

A game of two cliches 12:26pm on 09 Feb 2009 Not strictly a cliche, but I can't stand it when pundits/commentators comment on their lack of understanding of the offside rule. For example:
"Is he interfering with play there?"
"There's definite daylight"
"What does first/second phase mean?"
"They seem to change the rule every year. No-one understands it anymore!"

How can a tv company employ an expert who doesn't even know the rules of the game?

That's really not much income to lose, is it? They could recoup that put putting the season ticket prices up by 20 to 25 pounds.

No carping about Kaka coup 2:44pm on 16 Jan 2009 It's naive to think that the Abu Dhabi Group will endlessly pump money into the club for no return.

Eventually, if Man City start making the champions league, expect to see the ticket prices increase, and the club to become somewhat more prudent in the transfer market- exactly how Chelsea have done.
