A tribute to Brian Barron by his daughter 3:10pm on 04 Oct 2009 I can only hope that my children remember the stories I tell them so fondly

Good point about Gilchrist. I would add that he stands out as one of the few (if not the only) from any test playing country as someone guaranteed to walk if he thought he was out.
Subconciously I think I was having a dig at Ricky Ponting who I perceive as failing to be whiter than white in the "Spirit of the Game Stakes"
As for the underarm bowl I genuinely think that while it might be OK to joke about it like I did at work, it was when, 1981? I don't think it should really be used as an indicator of current Aussie fairness and ethics, and that was not my intention
My Aussie colleagues do have a bee in their bonnet about English timewasting though, today they told me that England had dropped Panesar in favour of a second Physiotherapist.

Funnily enough I did put a FOI request in asking who was ultimately responsible for the decision regarding the changes to international pages?
I imagine it will be the DG but it would be good to see who really puts their head above the parapet.
That answer is now due so I must keep an eye out in my e-mail
Phoenix from the Ashes 3:43pm on 14 Jul 2009 Living in Australia I spent all Monday whistling the theme tune to The Great Escape. My aussie colleagues were a bit naffed off not to have won to say the least. When I asked them would Australia do the same thing if, hypothetically they were in the same position England were in they prevaricated about hypothetical situations but would not say "No".
Mind you when I went further and asked if it was sporting to bowl the last ball of a game underarm or not to walk when out? I was told a) to get over the underarm bowling (LOL) and b) to get real. So where do you draw the line on gamesmanship?
I cannot understand why people think it is unfair that the result is a draw. The basic rule, as I understand it, is that to win you have to get the opposition out twice and have scored more runs than them when doing so. If neither side achieves that, then a draw it is.
I don't know if it is true, but I am told that Michael Collins in Eire once said to members of the IRA, that they should "Never underestimate the British, for they invented cricket"
PS next week I am practising "I don't want to talk about it" by Rod Stewart as my tune for work. Lords and England victories in the Ashes are not exactly best mates are they?
Changes to international pages (4) 09:07am on 14 Jul 2009 It seems to me that those of us who objected to the changes over a month ago have now been more or less ignored into submission
Along with others I have been saddened by the BBC's actions but it has made me look around and I have to say that I am glad I have done so.
Also, I have asked this once before but I would like to know if the numbers viewing the BBC pages have changed since the changes to "International Pages" were made in June?
Waking up to Ashes lag 05:59am on 13 Jul 2009 I have enjoyed today at work, whistling the theme to "The Great Escape". Incessantly. By next Tuesday morning after the test at Lords has finished I may well be whistling Rod Stewart's "I don't want to talk about it" so I am enjoying it while I can
My Aussie colleagues are disappointed and it was a good day for Webber to win his F1 GP otherwise the various media sports reports could have been really depressing

It was a lousy shot but I suppose we should be grateful that he played it at 69 and not a lot earlier in the innings

I had to get retaliation in early at work today - I live in Geelong nr Melbourne - by commenting that at least Australia made it past the follow on. This distraction prevented comments from my Aussie colleagues on the apparent paucity of the bowling yesterday

Changes to international pages (3) 1:23pm on 02 Jul 2009 Today I posted a comment on Robbo Robson's blog in the BBC Sport webpages making a light comment about there being no mention of Andy Murray in the blog.
13 minutes later "Paul G" from BBC Sport responded indicating that 4 paragraphs of text had been missed because of a cut and paste mishap and that they had now been inserted into the blog
13 minutes and an acknowledgement that a mistake had been made. I can tell you I was impressed with that
