Belt tightening 5:07pm on 20 Oct 2008 Declan, if you really want to lose weight then just imagine having plaque in your arteries and having to lose it plus the weight. I had a heart attack just about a year ago through excess weight, little exercise and lack of knowledge or just pain ignorance as to the symptoms of heart attack.
It surely did frighten me as I was lucky to have seven heart bypasses done and some stenting in my legs. I was clogged all over with plaque and cholesterol. Within three weeks of surgery I went down from 150lbs to 120lbs. It was fear alone that made me lose the weight. Make it your reason to lose weight too. Just think what would happen to your family if you dropped dead from heart troubles just because you love to eat too much. It should make you realise that you can lose weight by s imply eating and more fruits and veggies than meat. I reduced the salt intake as well and I feel wonderful and so agile after so many years with that extra weight around my middle.
Go for it Declan and we will have you around to enjoy your personality for years to come.
Sinister robocalls 03:18am on 18 Oct 2008 This a fine example of the personality traits of McCain. He is a ruthless man who wants to win no matter the cost. The spoiled Navy brat who always got his own way riding on the coat tails of his father and grandfather's reputations and successes.
McCain graduated fifth from the bottom of his class. He crashed three aircraft in his fighter pilot career. He has the personality traits a fighter pilot needs but not for a President. Where a calm and peaceful mind is needed to deal with other nations and people. Where one needs to conduct oneself with dignity.
It really frightens me to know he could win and control the country just a few miles from where I live in Canada.
His running mate Sarah Palin is even worse and would say just about anything to become the Vice President. How in the world did this come about? I bet he knew that no one else would take on the task of being his substitute when they knew he probably couldn't win with the idea he knows how to fix things. He said he knows how to do this yet doesn't tell how he would do this. The two republicans are really very strange and it makes me wonder about the people who would actually vote for them. Many of the voters seem to be full of anger and some sort of hate for Obama that makes me wonder if racial hatred is taking a step back into the 60's.
Cold calling people and then telling them vague and untruthful things that are so trivial that they have to embellish the story. I think we are watching a man who is desperate with the knowledge he could very well loose this run for the presidency. I pray for this.
Wall Street blues 7:15pm on 15 Oct 2008 I blame Bush and his Republicans for the worldwide mess we, in developed nations, are in.
Bush and his cohorts leashed havoc with less restrictions on the banks and Wall Street. The greed set in and here we are with half of what we had or less, no means to retire or get on with life.
The people who succumbed to large mortgages at knock down prices wouldn't have been able to get those mortgages if the rules hadn't been changed.
I must say McCain also voted to allow this to happen. Now he says he wants to name names.
This is what happens when you have a candidate for the Presidency who has that personality trait of a fighter pilot, one who is somewhat reckless and ruthless and of a dare devil nature,\; oh, and short tempered.
I only hope I have the chance to recoup my money I worked so hard to save, just like most of us who are at retirement age.
You Americans who read this should remember just who changed the rules for banks and Wall Street when you come to vote on November 4th.
A gloomy forecast 2:56pm on 08 Oct 2008 I would much rather vote for intellect than bonhomie so I would vote for Obama and not McCain. The US needs some one with brains to deal with the rest of the world and win the respect back for the the US that has been lost by Bush and Cheney. As a British/Canadian living in Canada I would love to see Obama lead my neighbours to the south. McCain called those folks witnessing the debate "my friends", they are not his friends and he came across as phony and grasping at straws. Obama came across as bright and he spoke with conviction. We have the makings of a great leader here.
Exile on Main Street 1:41pm on 30 Sep 2008 I'm so glad I live in Canada. Our Prime Minister was on the telly last night reassuring us that we our economy is not nearly as bad as the US. It made me feel a little better.
I wonder what the Americans were thinking when they voted no to the bail out. I firmly believe that the Fat Cats who created this dilemma should be brought to book, charged and if found guilty, imprisoned for lengthy periods of time. Heads should certainly roll. Greed took hold of many and now many more will pay the price for the said greed of others.
Obama offers a fresh approach to managing the US and I hope they vote for him and let him get on with the job of bringing the US back to where it can hold its head high with honour and not greed.
