I love the little nicknames that South American players often get given. One of my favourites is Pablo Aimar's: payaso (clown).

Can't say I'd blame him really; while the jury was out for me when he first signed for Real Madrid, he's certainly proven his goalscoring ability there in the last couple of seasons.

Pellegrini finds right blend for Villarreal 09:02am on 08 Apr 2009 35. I don't want to turn this into a debate about Arsenal but I just thought I'd qualify my comment about Arsenal's "shaky" defence. It's true that a strong defence has contributed to their unbeaten Premier League run, but I've just noticed that there always seem to be one or two occasions in every match where mass panic sets in between the two centre backs and the keeper, as if they've never met each other before. You can usually get away with it in the Premier League but you're less likely to in the Champions League. That's just what I meant.
Pellegrini finds right blend for Villarreal 10:40pm on 07 Apr 2009 I thought Villarreal were excellent in the first half against Arsenal tonight. Pellegrini has got them drilled very well and they play very good football. Senna is class. That said, Arsenal did dominate the second half (what a goal from Adebayor, by the way!) though Villarreal could have sneaked it at the end.

All the media over here will no doubt be backing Arsenal as favourites, but their defence is definitely shaky, so if El Submarino Amarillo can get an early goal again who knows what might happen. Everything to play for! It's great to see two fantastic footballing sides, so I can't wait for the second leg.

Uruguay, a Nacional question 1:20pm on 03 Feb 2009 #43 - I disagree with this - "The quality of English non-league has improved with the amount of foreign players further up who have pushed the English players further down a level, thus every level is better than it was.". While of course there's no denying that there are more non English players playing in the Premier League than ever, that also applies at all levels of the English game. And that, in my opinion, is largely responsible for the improvement in quality in all levels of English football.

I must say, regarding the comments from the ex-WSC writer - I do find WSC to be an entertaining read, but all that parochial, dogs**t for goalposts, bovril and bad pie stuff a bit tiring sometimes.
Kaka's transfer quandary 10:48am on 19 Jan 2009 I predict a year at City, before Real Madrid nip in with a minimum fee release clause bid - rumoured to be £68m, if City don't reach an acceptable level by this time next year.

It does seem that he doesn't want to leave Milan, but as noted by an earlier correspondent, their acceptance of the bid will probably force his hand.

It's a very odd, and rather distasteful, situation.
