Senna by way of Touching the Void 03:59am on 02 May 2009 Senna was the greatest of the modern era and I don't think anyone can realistically argue with that. It was a different game altogether when he started out compared to Schumacher.

In many ways the Schumacher era was dictated by the fallout over Senna's death. New safety procedures in every aspect of F1 helped Schumacher more than most, but there is no denying his brilliance either.

It's just a shame we were robbed of seeing two of the true greats battle it out for a much longer time.

Many are under the delusion that the Old Firm are actually raising the standard in Scotland, but if that is true then why are we so bad in Europe?

Aalborg are 7th in the Danish Premier. This is not a good side yet Celtic only managed to take one point from six? The financial differences between both clubs are huge so Celtic cannot continue with the tired old argument that the other SPL sides are hurting the Old Firm.

The wealth in our game needs to be spread out far more evenly because it's clear that the Old Firm are just wasting what they get at our expense. It's time to break up this duopoly they have in our game - forcibily if necessary.
Haye has mouth - and plenty of trousers 11:13pm on 16 Nov 2008 Haye could do ok. There's no doubt he's a highly talented boxer and with the Heavyweight division being so poor, he's certainly capable of going far.

However, he shouldn't underestimate the Klitschko's. Both of them can fight and none of them will buckle like Monte Barret.

It's easy for the west to dismiss the Klitschko's because we don't see them on tv a lot, but they *are* great fighters. Right now, they are too good for Haye but in a years time, and more importantly - 2 more heavyweight fights under his belt - Haye could be the next world champion.

Haye's undoing could be his impatience. He's young comparitively and doesn't need to rush into these fights.

Do yourself a favour and go wiki Jeff Lacy. See what a real champion does to your supposed young 'superstars'.

The Lacy fight was embarrassing, that's probably why Joe decided to stop beating up your kids in the first place.
Perfect time for Joe to go 11:01pm on 11 Nov 2008 Yawn. Chad Dawson? I take it he's the next big thing now that Pavlik got his backside handed to him by Hopkins?

Please get real. This Dawson clearly hasn't the brains to fight Calzaghe otherwise he'd steer clear of him - especially after what Joe did to Lacy (who had a similar record to Dawson).

As for Joe ducking RJJ? That's just another myth. There is no greater boxer on earth at this moment than Joe and there is no american within 20 years who could hope to beat him.

A good night for Labour? Anything that wasn't a defeat would be good for Labour.

I think you'll find 'voter apathy' pretty high. It's not because the SNP are doing a bad job, it's because Labour are so far behind that minor 'victories' like this are meaningless.
Is it Maradona's time? 11:28pm on 04 Nov 2008 Maradonna is a hero in Scotland just like he said. It is a constant source of amusement to us every time the English press mention the 'Hand of God'.

Let's not forget he scored arguably the greatest goal of all time in the same game.

Anyway, most Scots know that is irrelevent nowadays. What is important is that his life is turning around. He's been given a last chance to prove he was just another great footballer gone wrong. He's done a lot of damage to his body of the years - too much that it won't seriously shorten his time left here.

I wish him every success in the time he has left, though preferably starting after the game vs Scotland at Hampden.
Time for Capello to deliver 10:31pm on 05 Sep 2008 The mentality between Scotland and England is obvious - Scotland are playing a side ranked around 60 away from home and all of us from the manager, players, press and fans think a draw would be a very good result.

It seems to me that England needs to grow up as a nation and accept that you are not world beaters.

You are playing a proven side ranked 5th in the world away from home. Croatia aren't there by accident - the Fifa ranking are much, much closer to reality since the format was changed.

3 points in Zagreb would be one of the best results in your history. 1 point will be a very good result. England as a whole needs to realise this....nobody in the world of football goes to Croatia and thinks coming away with a draw is anything other than a very good result.
UK Olympic team spells danger for Scotland 02:35am on 28 Aug 2008 Scotland is deeply proud, yet thankfully tinged with deep sense too.

I'm a Scot, and a Nationalist. Was I 'proud' to see the GB Olympians perform out of their socks? You bet I was. There was not a single medal winner I wasn't 100% behind.

I can easily interchange my allegiance. I could boo 'God save the Queen' at a football match if I didnt think booing the oppositions anthem was uncouth and beneath a person of my education. I can and frequently do hope that the England football or rugby side gets beaten.

At the same time I can cheer on Lewis Hamilton, or Rebecca Adlington like they are one of my own.

People need to understand that there is a big, big difference between hate or racism, and rivalry. I want to see England lose because they are our closest 'rivals' in team sports. Individually or at the olympics we are one nation currently, and all 'brits' come under the same flag no matter how much we (the Scots) dislike it.

The football issue for 2012 is yet another matter. As a Scot, I feel we simply cannot allow this to happen no matter what.

And if the 'GB Football Team' comes out at Hampden Park full of English players...I might find it hard to stop booing at the 'national' anthem too.
