Benitez faces biggest test 10:50am on 21 Oct 2009 Playing Utd at home is the perfect game for Liverpool - this is the fixture that gets the juices going for the fans, who will be right behind them.

The same thing was true for rangers a couple of weeks ago, they had drawn 3 games in a row, without scoring a goal and got stuffed by sevilla and had dropped behind Celtic.

Then Celtic game to Ibrox got beat fair and square, Rangers won again and are top of the league - it can change quickly.

It wouldn't surprise me if Lpool beat Utd - Lpool will go into it many peoples eyes as underdogs - how are the bookies pricing it? This is when lpool are at their best.

Even a draw keeps them in the thick of it and Utd aren't great, lets be honest here, although outplaying city they needed a 197th minute goal to win the derby, another late one to scrape a draw with sunderland and hung on for dear life at Bolton - its not a forgon conclusion that utd will win, far from it in my eyes.

No doubt fergie will have them fired up especially as lpool beat utd twice last year.

If lpool can get torres and gerrard on the park at 85/90% for 90 minutes they will win the game - Liverpool have to attack, if they do they can expose utds struggling back line.

The concern for lpool in staying in the top 4 has to be that instead of 1 team trying to push into the top 4 there are 4 or 5 others this year, they won't all clapse and fade away.

I think Lpool are still very capable of doing what they need to, to get through the champ lge, but it may be a blessing going out and concentrating on the league.

Investment is key, if they can get some money in, not necessarily just to buy players but the stadium is a must, thats the most important thing.
Benitez faces biggest test 10:36am on 21 Oct 2009 could be worse, you could be Rangers, stuffed at home for the 2nd time in the champions league and this time by a team who no one has really heard off, with a record signing of 350k.

Thats a shambles and embarassing and clueless, and yet we're still top of the SPL - doesn't say much.

England's elite in pole position 12:22pm on 26 Feb 2009 I thought beforehand that only 3 English teams would qualify and it would be Utd that would miss out. I still believe that now, although the only team I think will definitely qualify is Liverpool, Madrid were woeful and will not win at Anfield unless something amazing happens between now and then. Both Arsenal and Chelsea need to score, if they do that should be enough. Utd are better than Inter, as they showed for long periods, however they didn't score, all it takes is 1 dodgy decision, 1 lucky goal and they could well be out - squeaky bum time. Inter i think showed enough in the 2nd half to show they can cause problems and did have some good chances themselves. Plus Mourinho seems to be a lucky manager, he made his name with Porto and really Utd should have knocked them out that year, but a bad decision to disallow a Scholes goal and bad keeping from Howard seen them knocked out.
The prem league is as good as over anyway, it's a fight for 2nd to 5th.

About 18 months ago when doing some voluntary work i lived in Ayacucho in the Peruvian Andes for 6 weeks. Working with the kids the universal language of football transcended all language difficulties, my spanish was poor and they spoke no English - Which i was very happy with, i'm glad there are still areas in the world where English isn't the first language - Not like in Lima where English is hugely important.

Anyway during one of our conversations me and one of the kids where talking about footballers. We took it in turn to name a footballer and then said either bueno or malo - I was amazed at the time that they had never heard of many of the big English and European stars e.g. Henry and Lampard. I found that very endearing and also restored a bit of faith that the EPL and CL weren't completing taking over the world - I hope it's still the case in Ayacucho but i wouldn't be sure.
No shame to European defeat 10:37am on 22 Sep 2008 When the captains picks were made, i had no problem with poulter being picked it was the way it was done - Casey was the one i always felt shouldn't have been picked and i think he was another weak link, he drives the ball for miles but he can't putt - driving for show, putting for dough.

All in all the better team won, Azinger used the advantage of being home captain to set the course up as he wanted and it paid off - Europe can do that next time in Wales.

Europes biggest problem was Garcia, Westwood, Harrington and Casey the 4 you were expecting to get points and they just didn't perform, perhaps it was the pressure of being the team leaders that got to them.

negative points - Garcia, westwood, casey, harrington, jiminez, hansen and stenson

I think europe will come back next time but it cant be underestemitated the fact tiger wasnt there, i think that greatly helped USA - Everyone wants to beat him and i think especially in ryder cups people raise their game against him.

The US team will also be under a great deal more pressure next time round, so it will be interesting to see how they do then and also away from their own fans.

I'm also sure that the US team will be greatly changed in 2 years, players come and go alot in the US - Where is JJ Henry??
Which is the best Euro goal ever? 10:52am on 03 Jun 2008 van bastens is obviously the best but as an earlier post said Panenkas winning penalty for the czechs was awesome - just a dink down the middle - superb.

of the others being mentioned i have to say suker and poborsky and figo, all pure class as was ibrahimovic.

its funny how most of the goals are purely individualistic, not many team goals in there.
