• Capello can plot World Cup glory 3:09pm on 10 Sep 2009 I am happy England qualified but that's as far as it goes for now.
  I praise Capello for the good work, but Kazakhistan, depleted Croatia, Ukraine, Andorra are not teams that I can use to measure England.
  It is usually the English way to dream and this time is no different.
  When it matters we shall see what this English team can do or can't. In the past they also entered on a high note, and exited on a low one. Personally I have no expectations yet, even though the english expectatation in general were very low this time around as England didn't qualify for EURO hence, the bar was extremely low and any victory seemed to be a world cup victory.
  Look at the Italians, Germans, Spanish, even the French, they just celebrate without too much noise, and their qualification is 90% secure throughout the campaing, no need for talk, just do the job. And normally the always show up when it matters, and that's where England always fails. So let's see how it is going to be this time around, and no it is not wembley were they play.

  i am not talking about Real, we all know real's problems, they have been there for years. It's not new, and on top of it they have a useless coach who only a few months ago sent tottenham to the relegation zone.
  
  but my point is liverpool (the mighty proud ENGLISH team) more like a spanish colony if you ask me.
  
  Of course you pool fans don't like to hear it, but that's reality, you had more spanish players than madrid.
  
  whether you look at the other side of that coin and bring madrid up is irrelevant as it doesn't change the fact that Liverpool still has more spanish players than a spanish team yet it plays under the english flag.
  
  I just find it ironic that's all. and i really like to see the new 6+5 liverpool to be honest.

  you forgot the most important statistic of all which has more weight than any of those you mentioned.
  
  the number of years alex has been at united vs the number of years rafa has been at liverpool.
  
  as well as calculate performance percentage. You might find out that most of those united years have been losses rather than wins, look into it.
  
  but Years please post them. i have a feeling that 2 decades and several years are hardly comparable.
  
  when you produce this stat, than perhaps if those numbers are comparable you might have a case and a right in comparing.
  
  otherwise compare rafa and alex for the same amount of years when alex took charge.
  
  may as well bring mourinho to the equation with his 2 yrs of ruling and he will make alex looks pathetic as a coach if you compare their first 2 years.

  He doesn't want first team players to get hurt and miss on the league.
  
  Hence you get 2nd team playing in moskow.
  
• England's elite in pole position 4:46pm on 26 Feb 2009 actually to be fair. liverpool fans should be a little ashamed of the team they support.
  
  Yesterday Liverpool was playing the second best Spanish team but there were more Spanish players wearing the Liverpool shirt than the Real Madrid shirt.
  
  I don't know about you, but that's hardly an english team whoever said that liverpool is an example that our league is the best league. That's not our league. It's the business league.
  
  I hope the fifa 6+5 works so that liverpool and arsenal as well as united and chelsea clean their squads and give us the league back.
  
  But it is amusing to the rest of us who are not Liverpool fans, to listen to the pools being proud of their spanish team.
  
  I think liverpool should really consider applying to Uefa, La Liga, and Premierleague to allow them to challenge for La Liga instead. Maybe there Benitez might, just might, be able to win a domestic trophy.

  i don't know what matches you watched but this is how I looked at them:
  
  1. United should have won against Inter. INter lacked power, lacked discipline, and willingness to win. United were simply better and more mature.
  When you watch how giggs moves with the ball than you know you have problems.
  I don't particularly like united but they outplayed Inter. of course i have to agree with you that the referee helped United a lot, and that was not fair at all to Inter and perhaps that must have contributed a little to United's dominance, but than again Inter didn't really show any signs of wanting to win.
  
  2. Arsenal outplayed Roma and should have won 2-0 I felt. Nothing to be said there, Arsenal always play great football that deserves victories but the reality of football is something different altogether.
  
  3. Chelsea Juve I think was a fair result. Chelsea should have done better but instead they allowed Juve to come back in the game. Italian teams are far better than english teams technically and that showed, but in this day and age, power seems to win more games than ability. I thought the result was fair and Chelsea had far more dangerous opportunites than Juve.
  
  4. Liverpool played smart. Real did nothing all game to challenge, and shooting at the fans behind the liverpool goal is not a sign of an attacking team. Sorry. Real was very weak, and if you trust Robben to be your leader, I rest my case. Liverpool deserved the win, and how great it would have been if alonso half field shot would have gone in.
  I don't know what people expect of the Ramos Real but whatever it is they really should go and see a doctor. Ramos sent Totenham a few months ago to the relegation zone, now he is wanting to send Madrid to the final of CL???

  lampard a titan? you are a titan when you are a big game winner, someone the team can turn to for that extra mile. Lampard himself when it comes to nerve games like ManU has SOS written all over him.
  
  i am sorry but I didn't see Lampard against United, maybe you should start being objective. time for being biased is long gone.
  
  Ballack had a much more solid game than lampard who was lost in thin air for 90 minutes with the exception of one occasion when he passed back to drogba for drogba to give manU an throw in. But certainly being more involved means you get more responsibility for mistakes made.
  
  lampard, lampard, lampard...get real, and stop this biased analysis. Lampard is not the type of player who can carry a team among the best.
  
  Now I will leave you do the analysis on the rest of chelsea but I know ballack's and it seems you don't realize his purpose.
  
  At Bayern and Germany before Klinsmann's time, Ballack was the head of the diamond, an attacking midfielder but both those teams had excellent wing players who could play long balls, cross from the wings, take corners and free kicks, thus providing for Ballack. Chelsea doesn't have any player who can do that reliably. Lampard needs 12 chances to get one right.
  For the past 4 yrs Ballack due to both Chelsea's and Germany's lack of team balance has been forced to play more defensive positions as his defensive presence is crucial to allow other players who are faster than him get on the attack while he plays the anchor midfielder. The problem with Chelsea is that Lampard competes for that role too and lately so does Deco meaning that you have two players: Lampard and Deco who are all over the field, and more often that not completely out of position thus allowing overconfident full backs A.Cole and Bosignwa to get schooled by the opposite team's attack.
  
  ANd that's precisely what happened with United. Rewatch the match, and notice Deco being everywhere on the field, doing absolutely nothing, notice Lampard being everywhere on the field also doing nothing. ...
  
  it is ridiculous how we have made Ballack a target all this time, when our own english players are just as guilty if not more since they are the ones who are believed to be the spine of the team. But we are biased towards them and don't dare criticize them. Well enough is enough. Give them credit when they deserve it.

  People who talk about ballack's tiring legs.
  
  why don't you check the stats and see that Ballack runs more miles per game than any other chelsea player. you confuse movement for speed boys. time to take a physics course.
  
  I agree with many of you on deco, who indeed makes berbatov look like an ant soldier, but ballack.
  
  Come on the guy is german, but he is one fine german who has done more than all of our english chelsea boys together. Of course our english pride stands a little on the way of realism, as we just like, actually really love to hail our own heroes and gods of football, who can't even qualify for the world cup let alone take their teams to finals.
  
  so enough of using Ballack as a scapegoat. The failure of Chelsea is that they cannot use Ballack's mind in midfield thus they force him to play more defensive positions, Ballack's air superiority because not one player in our team, including Lampard cannot cross for the love of god. Yes if you try 12 times you are bound to get one right,, but that's still a very poor rate which you don't get against top teams, and lastly his power which they undermine by again keeping him far from the goal area.
  
  and now scolari....i am sure scolari watches that ballack goal against portugal every night, hence he would rather play deco. BY THE WAY, ANYONE WANTS MY HOME GAME TICKET? I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD PAY TO WATCH DECO PLAY. WANT MY MONEY BACK.
  
  But it is time for the fans to blame each other too. We have allowed this to get to this point in much the same way by worshipping what we consider our players due to their name: terry, lampard, a cole.
  get real....lampard anywhere else would be a mediocre player, terry appart from being a heavy defender is too foolish, and any intelligent forward can dance around him if it wasn't for carvalho most of the time.
  
  but i just felt like saying it, because it is not fair for us to make ballack a target. Mourinho knew exactly what he wanted to do with Ballack, but sadly for him, he had created a sort of chelsea team that favored muscle more than intellect, which backfired.
