If it's Tuesday this must be Birmingham... 3:11pm on 05 Aug 2009 The clue, as they say, is in the title. Of course London will benefit, but what is the cause of much regional concern is the outlflow of lottery funding from sport and the arts into East London.

At the moment, there is a trading deficit, and the task of all concerned is to redress that balance.

You should all have a look at the work the South Wales Chamber is doing,

If you take time to read the comments of the chamber head and the economic arguments they are making, I hope that you will get behind the project.

Thank you for your informative blog, as someone who works closely with many of the Olympic and Paralympic athletes, I can assure you that your sense of anticipation is shared by many.

The comments made by others about featuring the whole range of Olympic Sport belies the work done by this website but does highlight the slightly bewildering attitude of the public to their four yearly heroes.

With the continual struggles to raise money from the private sector, please may I suggest that in a spirit of mutual interest, ie big ratings if we have a successful team, you could do no worse than have a look at what the athletes are doing themselves about this?

This ranges from a free to join Supporters Club to businesses rewarding their staff and supporting the athletes.

Can I bring to your attention a scheme my employers are involved in? Each year, our offices in Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham, Coventry and Nottingham provide all staff with their local Invitation Book as part of their overall bonus, (which was drastically reduced in December.)

The books cost our employers £25, they contain over 450 offers on restaurants, leisure and tourist activities, which means that we tend to save way in excess of £100 per person, making that £25 go a lot further.

Ethical part? Well a minimum of £10 per book goes to our charity of the year, enabling our firm to maintain their CSR commitments.

In respect to the RBS Group, 176,000 employees receiving this would generate over £1.7m for good causes, and their staff would access loads of savings.

Win,win? Who could complain about that?

Each year, my firm includes a publication called the Invitation Book as part of our bonus, which in 2008 was drastically reduced, as should the RBS Group.

The book costs £25, but the rub is that we get access to over £13,000 worth of incentives, which makes that £25 go a lot further. Most of our staff save over £200 a year, I reckon I saved over £130.

The ethical bit? Well each book generate £10 to our charity of the year, enabling the firm to maintain their CSR in these difficult times.

Project that to 176,000 staff across the UK, this would raise £1.7m for charity, and make their staffs money go further.

But, that would be sensible.

There is a FREE OF CHARGE initiative to help businesses and individuals who wish to support sport, help offset the impact the credit crunch is having on this desire to support.

For many companies, faced with falling profits, job losses, low pay settlements for staff, reduced bonuses for staff and dividends for shareholders, also cutbacks on staff subsistence and client entertainment, it is hard to justify handing over large sums of money in forms of sponsorship.

The creation of a Sport Entitled Business Club, provides business with a platform to increase profile, brand awareness and provide all within their organisation with a direct tangible and financial benefit from their involvement.

By utilising the Invitation Book, (google it) each member of staff will access between £7,000s and £13,000 worth of money saving discounts.

You can also promote the opportunity for individuals to purchase and fundraise at the same time.

Time to be creative people, time to be creative.

The regional myth exploded. So what benefits for the nation as a whole then?

Can I also bring attention to the following?

Lottery Funding:
It was recently announced that some £310 million had been raised for the Olympics.

At 28p a ticket going to good causes, that means that the British public has spent just over £1.107 Billion.

With 50% going on prizes, the British public is out of pocket to the tune of £553 million. (All helps with the credit crunch era!)

There again, as Adrian Moorhouse said at the Beijing Games.
"People buy lottery tickets to win money not back sport!"
How the financial crisis could hit London 2012 7:29pm on 30 Sep 2008 Sponsorship is not the only way!

There is a scheme in place for business to redirect EXISTING expenditure into the fund.
