but only you, and everyone else insist: "But remember this: Saif Gaddifi, the Libyan dictator's favourite son and a key figure in the bomber's release, has averred that "in all commercial contracts for oil and gas with Britain, Megrahi [the now-released bomber] was always on the table." So it's reasonable to assume the ministers had their ears bent."

Is the BBC wrong?

The current Depression was caused by Government interference with the markets, specifically the FEDs inflationary policy of artificial low interest rates. The Depression of the last century was similarly caused by by government interference with the market. This is certainly the view of the Suatrian School of Economics which is spectacularly successful at spotting Depressions in advance.

"According to the new ideology, participants in markets who accumulate the biggest personal fortunes are merely those most adept at predicting the irrational behaviour of the herd."

These are called Entrepreneurs and their existence is one of the fundamental planks of the Austrian School. So rather than anything new this idea is pretty close to being a 100 years old!

Being wrong wont stop this, nor any other government, from using it as an excuse for more interference and regulation. Governments wont let a crisis go to waste.
Will he stay or will he go? 10:30am on 18 May 2009 There is such a lot of anger over the MPs expense debacle that, should the Speaker hang on until the next election, it is likely that Labour will become the third party.

This reduces the amount of market that can be reserved for a national monopoly and hence implictly requires part privatisation at the very least.

Parliament has no choice but to pass it as the decision has already been enacted in an EU directive. The vote is thus simply pantomine to pretend that Parliament has a role in legislation.

Well, we have historical examples, such as the Wiemer republic, post-war Hungary but these would be dismissed as irrelevant by the government.

However, if we look at Japan, which has had no less than 8 stimulus packages as well as QE then we see that the nett result has been 18 years of recession.

This would lead a rational observer to conclude that stimulus packages and QE not only not work but also make things worse.

An irratioanl observer would conclude that if you keep doing the same thing over and over eventually you get a different result.
