Where next on Megrahi? 00:55am on 28 Aug 2009 My attempt to listen to the BBC broadcast of this emergency session `Mon 24th` was spoilt by your constant assumption that us viewers would not understand the questions being asked and your need to talk over the querist explaining what was being asked as if we were stupid.

Regaining order in the Commons 10:02pm on 22 May 2009 I agree with everything you say except your opinion regarding the "speaker" Michael Martin.

The media have always portrayed Mr Martin as someone who comes from a humble background, someone who has worked hard to overcome numerous obstacles in order to reach his present lofty position as "Speaker". Well somewhere along the road the man has obviously forgotten that "humble" background and been seduced by the standards enjoyed by the political elite.

This obnoxious man even had the audacity to use hundreds of thousands of £pounds, taxpayers money, in an attempt to keep us ordinary folk ignorant to the fact that we were getting fleeced. I say good riddance to him and all like him.

As for our university, if only it could stick to its purpose for being rather than attempting to dictate our business strategy as well as our culture and heritage, we might be in a stronger position.
Will QE work? 00:47am on 13 Mar 2009 So, the BoE purchases these "bonds" from the government and pays for its purchase with electronic credits to the sellers' designated banks, which, in turn, credit the sellers' bank accounts.
These credits are literally created out of nothing.

The banks receiving the credits can then use them as reserves to enable them to loan out as much as 10 times their amount (if their reserve requirement is 10%) and it's all legal, What a business.

Imagine how rich we might all be if we as private individuals could do the same thing. Borrow a million from the BoE and like magic it becomes 10 times as much, and we get to collect interest on all but the 10% of it we must hold in reserve.

Other than the name "Quantitative Easing" there is nothing new here. This is the bankers rolling out an old and often used trick, only with a new name but the same intention; greater profits gained at our expense.

You, and the politicians have always told us our council tax level was based on the worth of the dwelling property. Well the worth of my house is now less than it was, so when may I expect a reduction of council tax demand?.

Us ordinary folk have known for years that our false economy would eventually implode.
As for your thoughts on how banks can become "good" again? I suppose the thoughts of an `expert` are as good as anybody else's, however, take heed and avoid like the plague the son of a clergyman who becomes a politician and takes control of the nations economy.
Gaza appeal 00:34am on 27 Jan 2009 So, in order to protect the BBC's "impartiality" they are content to ignore the fact that hundreds of thousands of people living in Gaza are enduring "Holocaust" conditions that are not unlike the conditions suffered by the Jews themselves in the ghettos of Hitlers Germany?.

Mark Thomson, and those others at the BBC who made this decision, should hang their heads in shame.

As for Rupert Murdoch and his Sky network?, we really should'nt be surprised.

The matter of the BBC and the other News Stations facing reporting restrictions, should not be used as an excuse for not expressing the sense of outrage felt by all intelligent civilised persons regarding the suffering being inflicted on the citizens of Gaza by the Israeli Army.

Perhaps our academics and university leaders should start speaking out, and the media might use their voices to exert pressure on the Israeli's.
The situation facing the people of Gaza today is not unlike the situation the Nazis imposed on the Jews and others in Germany at the start of WW11, and that led to a holocaust.
We are the banks 01:54am on 28 Dec 2008 We shouldn't be concerned with keeping all the banks afloat. What's the point of giving them £billions of taxpayers money if they don't or won't lend it back as credit?.

And why should we give more £billions of taxpayers money to the car manufacturers, if the people don't have the money to buy their cars?.

The story of the next year should not be about the "implications" of the situation, it should be about the individuals who have pocketed vast personal fortunes and the incompetent politicians whose economic regulations encouraged the banks to be greedy.

Maybe some of us will get a job at the BBC as news presenters reporting about "strictly come dancing", or we can act like a prat (Jonathan Ross) and get £6million a year. Or maybe we can just write nonsense and call ourselfs reporters.
