Size matters for this pride of Lions 07:57am on 22 Apr 2009 Pretty much agree with most of the selections and he has stuck to what he said. However, I am worried about a few things.

1) He has picked players on current form. How do we know this form will still be there come the 1st test? Form is temporary, class is permanent. I wouldve taken Ryan Jones as he is a proven performer and another natural leader in the squad

2) 2 fly halfs - Do not understand why we are taking just 2. Most international teams call up 3 to a WC squad, and we shouldve followed that here. James Hook shouldve gone. Although I agree with the omission of Danny Cipriani. Geech wanted players whom, when left out, would be good for squad moral. From what we all know of Cipriani, he is a sukler, a spoilt brat. He couldve ruined squad moral. He is the type of player that if you take, you have to play.

3) Tom Croft - He shouldve gone. end of.

They have the players to do it, but do thye have the consistency?

Which sports are on the move for London 2012? 1:54pm on 23 Oct 2008 Few things:

1) London subsides the rest of the nation when it comes to benefits, building, etc. I do not really care about a council block going up in Sunderland, but it is still my taxes that will be paying for it. Those that are moaning that the Olympics is for London, yes, you are right, it is manily 'for' London, which is why Londoneers are going to be paying the most towards it.

2) #9, you said people are worried about jobs and not concerned about the Olympics. Let me flip reverse this on you. The Olympics will create upto 30,000 jobs during construction. So whilst the construction sector is currently struggling, it is only a matter of time until it gets going again. The Olympics couldnt be happening at a better time for the UK, as it will kickstart the economy with jobs and money spent

3) The Olympics is the best thing to happen to this country sinde 1966. Lets embrace it as a nation rather then constantly sniping. If you do not like it, then do not buy a ticket...
Walcott and Capello stun Croatia 07:52am on 11 Sep 2008 2 things:

1) With the breakthrough of Walcott, we may well now see Rooney go from strength to strength. The pressure is no longer on Rooney to be Englands future. Englands main man. The pressure now switches to Walcott, which will hopefully free up Rooney to play his game without the constant scrutinisation

2) What was evident in this game was the way the midfield worked. When Lampard went forward, barry sat, when Barry went forward, Lampard sat. What that showed to me is that the Gerrard and Lampard combination CAN work. It is not their talent or being similar players that is the problem, it is their EGOs. Both want to be the main man, therefore both are unwillling to sit when the other go's forward. I would still play the pair of them.

And anyway, when you are playing the greats of Kazakstan and Belarus, do you really need a holding midfielder??? Then when we get drawn against a top side, you merely drop a striker, play a 3rd man in the middle, and push the wingers higher up the pitch to support rooney

Get rid of the pairs egos and they can play together!

whilst i agree with your opinion, and i am a biased arsenal fan! i do think who else is there?

Bentley - useless and overrated
SWP - not played much this season, although, as you say, once he has a few games under his belt, i expect him to compete with walcott
Lennon - done nothing this season!

The only other viable option is Young. And the reason he is not in the squad (along with agbonlahor) is simple.

The final qualification for the 2009 Euro u21 tournamant was Friday. IMO, the England management decided to keep Young and Agbonlahor in the u21 side to england side to ensure they finish strong. i have seen this numerous times, players good enough to make the full squad being held back so thatthey can complete their 'journey' with the u21's.

but yes, young should be in the england squad, especcially as downing is useless!
Capello at home in hostile Zagreb 07:57am on 10 Sep 2008 I dont think we should overestimate the Croats. They are a decent, hard working team, with a few gifted players (modric, krankjar, eduardo) but are they as good as we are making out?

Yes, they beat us twice, the first time it was due to horroundes goalkeeping errors. and the 2nd time, well that was just stupidity! We played at our best for about 20 minutes and scored 2 goals.

Croatia are the international equivalent of Everton. Hard working, then rely on Arteta, Cahill and Yakubu to to snatch the win.

If we play postively, get at there slow defence, and just take modric out the game (he has been rubbish in the premiership so far!); we will win 2/3-0.

Anyone scratching their head wondering how it will work out, go watch Roma play. They lack a natural striker, and play totti upfron on his own. Get the ball to his feet, and get the midfield 4 running past him. That formation will give us pace and creativity. Also, with every member of that 4 being comfortable on the wing and in the middle, it will give us a fluidity and make us harder to mark!

Dommench shouldve grown a pair and called up/played all of the above. France have some magnificent young players. Arguably the ebst in Europe. Yet Dommench decided to stick with the out of form/injured henry, vieira, makelele, anelka, thuram and abidal
