Pay later? 9:41pm on 10 Sep 2009 The solution to our woes is very simple. Sack every public servant and close down every goverment department that doesnt do something vital. Reform the vital departments by sacking all bureaucrats.
Then start by slashing taxation both personal & corporate to the lowest level in the Western World. Our economy then expands and we become a prosperous nation again.

Has anyone the political will to do this. No chance Im afraid!

Language of the downturn 04:44am on 19 Feb 2009 #491 Susan a very good point. I come from a very working class background as well and have voted Tory since I was 18 in 87.

There is a wider point here relating to the New Labour project. Blair/Brown/Mandy realised they couldnt rely on the aspirational working class to vote Labour so they had to create a whole new class of people who were completely reliant on them.

These are

millions of people on disability benefits.
millions tied up on generous welfare.
millions of highly paid USELESS bureaucrats like outreach coordinators.
millions of new immigrants.

Turkeys dont vote for Christmas!

They have cynically destroyed and bankrupt this country to stay in power. The historians will not be kind to their legacy.
Language of the downturn 04:33am on 19 Feb 2009 Dean - you are in a 1% minority in the Tory party with your pro-Europe views so I hardly call that a split. You need to wake up and smell the coffee. That organisation is the biggest threat to everything this country holds dear. The brave RAF pilots who sacrificed themselves in Sept 1940 must be spinning in their graves.

The reason we are not in the Euro is because it would have to go to a Referendum and Blair/Brown knew it would never pass. Brown pretended to be Eurosceptic to play to the public but trust me he is v.v.v pro-eu.

With Ken Clarke he has many positives as a politician and he would probably be leader of the party but for Europe.
Language of the downturn 12:28pm on 18 Feb 2009 Deanthetory - you do realise that we could leave the EU and still keep the trade agreement in place. What other benefits then do we have to belong to this corrupt non-democratic organisation which is just trying to create a United States of Europe?

Defense and keeping the peace in Europe is down to NATO by the way.

One more question for you. We used to govern 1/3 of the worlds population quite successfully a generation or two back. Have we suddenly lost the capacity to govern ourselves??

Green shoots 7:42pm on 14 Jan 2009 Nick - Gordon Brown & his socialist henchman have ruined our economy with their stealth extreme left-wing policies.

In 1997 after inheriting a Golden Legacy from Ken Clarke why did Brown have to start taxing pension funds, raising taxes and selling gold reserves?

Was it to maybe cynically build up a Labour client state to make-sure they always get elected??

The answer is YES of-course. We have 11 million people living off the goverment in mainly unproductive jobs.

The only goverment employees who vote Tory are the military!

How he can say that Britain is a 'victim' in this recession is one of the biggest lies ever told since 1066. He ruined the golden legacy handed to him by Ken Clarke!

New Labours only policy left is if we keep telling the same lie often enough than eventually people will believe it.

Of-course the BBC lefties then take over with the pro-labour propaganda whilst this great country is destroyed! Disgraceful!
