Owen lifts Man Utd's Euro hopes 12:15pm on 10 Dec 2009 Your title reads wrong - our hopes are still the same. The game on Tuesday changed nothing. It wasn't an important game anyway. Owen scored 3 when one was enough. There was no pressure really. I don't think we have a better case for Owen here.

United will do well. I'll say we can beat Barca as they're a notch down from last year. Eto'o has left a gap. I'm wary of Inter... Real in the later rounds.

Chelsea are consistent for half a dozen games and then something inexplicable happens that puts a blemish on their pattern.

Arsenal are soft, touch-me-not kind of a team. They won't win the CL or the PL.
Benitez under spotlight after Champions League exit 12:08pm on 25 Nov 2009 The biggest problem with Liverpool is their fans - that includes Phil and Alan and Lawro! Why -

- Liverpool are an above average team. They do show sparks of brilliance every 10-12 games. All teams do. However, when that spark appears, the supporters go gung-ho into celebrating a birth of a great team. It all started again in 2005. And, after a lull we saw it again at the end of last season. We shall see it again in future. It's simply a delusion.

- Rafa is a good man. He takes a lot of garbage from everybody. And he's not at fault. The team simply isn't good enough for the top honours. He's led to believe that Liverpool are capable of top flight by the myopic media. The media is to blame for putting Liverpool on the top expectation level. They're not there. Do not belong there.

- The sooner the top players like Gerrad, Torres, Reina realise this the better for their careers. Jump!

Man City will regret lack of ambition 12:23pm on 23 Nov 2009 Liverpool are only in the FA cup now - only because it hasn't really started. Ordinary stuff. I think BBC has too many Liverpool-oriented pundits who tried to build a case for them winning it this season.

City - and I'm a United one - are doing quite well actually. I would have thought Liverpool should have won this one. City would have taken a draw before the game.

- Liverpool did the trick because of the atmosphere, the referee and our lack of creative industry.

- Carragher was boxing, fighting judo, sumo & rugby to get something out of it! Clearly your jounalistic abilities fly out of the window!

What a farce! Except Yossi, I wouldn't give anything to the Scousers. You still won't win it, read that the Pool and yourself, Phil!

Life in the old dogs yet 12:53pm on 01 Sep 2009 - I think Fergie should come out for support of Wenger and all managers -the way they are treated by referees is quite hostile. Do the referees think it's payback time that they vent their 'authority' thus?

- Every match has a performance / result destiny. This was no different. We were lucky compared to our performance. We have seen other scenarios. So, move on as results are counted, performances forgotten.

- Scholes, Neville should be sidelined - the sooner the better. Or we'll struggle a lot this season. Fergie, objectivity. A much stronger team is needed to play the other top 5.

Chelsea haven't played a good side as yet. City haven't either. Liverpool look a bit outa sorts. Phil note that. Arsenal won't win league.
Manchester City making waves 11:27am on 24 Aug 2009 Your blog seldom disagrees with - whichever way, whatever say the club you're covering, has! Diplomatic reporting.

Now, City has started well, so to speak. But against who? We'll see how they conjure up enough courage to create chances against the better teams. That's the real test.

They can arguably buy anything by doubling, trebling the market price. They can have 40-50 player contigent, reminiscent of a small country's in Olympics!

However, only 11 players play at a time. It depends on how these ginormous egos are dealt with, in terms of playing time. We shall see.

Mansour came, saw and spent. Did he conquer?

PS - I wonder who put up these strange banners of the Sheikh rescuing
the club? He does own the club, the employees... A self-pat on the back?!
Stuttering start for Benitez 12:41pm on 17 Aug 2009 Phil, I think you should be 'fickle-minded' now! One defeat couldn't decide the title, yet Liverpool's situation isn't quite like Everton's. To target the top 6 is different from topping every other team especially when the notorious other three are three steps ahead after one day!

Liverpool cannot afford to lose another game in the next 7-8 games at least. Or perhaps even draw a chunk of them.

Aquilani's not the same player as Alonso. He's a delicate player with flair and fragility in proportionate terms.

With the departure of Ade man, the aerial threat is gone. The Plan B above comes after 75% of the game elapsed - that won't change. Arsene (al) will have a struggling season ahead. Too soft.

United have not taken Grafite - so, perhaps Arsenal should. That man is made to play for the Premier League!
