O2 Arena plays perfect host to season finale 11:50am on 01 Dec 2009 That's a bit of an insult to the British public. I could really feel the crowd warming to Davydenko at least (wasn't lucky enough to be there for any of the Soderling matches). The British don't just like tennis players because they're famous. Most of them have a bit more sense than that.
O2 Arena plays perfect host to season finale 5:40pm on 30 Nov 2009 I was there for the Monday evening matches and absolutely loved it. The arena was fab and the staff there were (unexpectedly I must say) really friendly and helpful. The doubles especially were a great surprise - a shame more people didn't come in a bit earlier to support Leander and co. However, we did have to leave slightly before the end of the singles (Davydenko vs Djokovic) which I was a bit gutted about in order to catch the last train from London Bridge so perhaps some integrated transport thinking might be order. Do you think they'll sort it for 2012? Nothing wrong with the Jubilee Line though. Someone should have told that to Boris B as he ranted about the traffic problems on Sunday - just put on a disguise and hop on the Tube, love!
Why cars are greener than buses (maybe) 3:50pm on 20 Nov 2009 Or you could maybe even (and here's a revolutionary concept) walk or cycle. At least on shorter journeys. Now there's a thought.

Goodbye summer. 9:14pm on 01 Sep 2009 Whilst I didn't hear the feature in question, what the Met Office consistently fails to acknowledge is that it's not "warmer than average temperatures" people want. It's rain and wind that spoil people's summer activities; that it is warmer than normal is of little consolation I'm afraid. I'm not so silly as to blame the Met Office for the past three bad summers, but why bother issuing predictions if the science isn't there? They say that apparently they cannot predict accurately the movements of the jet stream - well, as anyone who's even slightly interested in meteorology can tell them, the jet stream's activities directly influence the presence of low pressure systems over much of the UK. I'm also willing to wager that our constant bombardment by these low pressure systems has something to do with the lack of sea ice in the arctic now. So I'm fairly confident that this will be the pattern for our summers from now on. I would be delighed to eat my words though.
Steely Ennis has golden glow 08:02am on 18 Aug 2009 Yes but this blog is about her achievements which are being universally applauded and admired. Usain Bolt is Jamaican, and his achievments are being lauded the world over, and are more high profile than Ennis's even here in her own country.
Steely Ennis has golden glow 4:25pm on 17 Aug 2009 What a wonderful competition and what a wonderful competitor. Jessica Ennis is a superb role model for all our young women and let's hope they realise that.
Someone wrote "A shame that everyone seems to have forgotten about the equally talented/pretty Kelly Sotherton". I really take issue with that. What on earth has prettiness got to do with anything? Kelly has served the heptathlon and British athletics superbly well over the years but I'd argue that Ennis eclipses her in both ability and promise. Sotherton is after all now over thirty and the clock is ticking. It's perhaps her misfortune that she coincided the peak of her career with the great Kluft. Hopefully I'm wrong and I'd be happy to eat my words.

And as for the person calling themselves inmyownwords, why on earth are you trying to turn this into a race issue? I mean, really.
Where has the summer gone? 11:17pm on 28 Jul 2009 Now, I am not daft, but I would dearly love to know how the powers that be have got summer forecasts so wrong in 2007 and 2009 (fair enough, 2008 was forecast to be awful). It's INCREDIBLY frustrating in the line of work I am in to have looked forward to this "BBQ summer" only to experience one even worse than the previous two. People like farmers must find this very difficult too. I was also led to believe by many sources that the long, cold winter we experienced this year was partly due to so many easterly and Continental ariflows, and that usually this would herald similar patterns in the summer. What's going on with the jet stream? Does anyone know WHY it's parked so low for the 3rd year in a row? Is this summer from now on? Because I just can't bear it! And one last thing, I heard today from some Breton fisherman that they think that the reason the summers have been so bad has had something to do with there being 13 moons in the year rather than the usual 12. This sounds like superstition but could it perhaps have something to do with currents and tides?

Who's the greatest? 7:26pm on 06 Jul 2009 I mean no disresepct, but I think it's very pointless to speculate. Clearly they are both supreme in two very different sports. It's like trying to argue who's the better - Nigel Kennedy and Brian May. Or Kiri Te Kanawa and Amy Winehouse (ok possible bad example). In my opinion.
