Review: Eagle Eye 1:52pm on 30 Sep 2009 BBC4’s technology season features an idiot family having to entertain themselves in a mocked up 1970s world before we had a plethora of modern gadget.
Does this mean they had to go and see the Conversation, Taxi Driver and Annie Hall instead of Michael Bay CGI films?

How did they survive!

Because the tabloid press and successive governments, who pander to their agenda, have taken over 15 years to catch up with the majority of the population who are quite happy to debate non-criminal drug strategies in an intelligent adult fashion.
Also various experiments with alternatives to prohibition are being tried in more and more countries and perhaps reflects the waning of American power, who are the main architects of this failed global war on drugs.
As well as the Swiss experiment there have been previous trials in this country that have produced similar results but were extremely low key.

Has the General been mentioned which is a fine recent John Boorman film and also got a decent performance out Jon Voight after Anaconda.
Review: The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3 1:57pm on 31 Jul 2009 This film looks a bit too long and the wrong subject matter for Tony Scotts talents.
The correct length for his films is two and half minutes. The right subject matter is 1980s cars, shampoo, razors or any other stuff a corporation wanted to sell us twenty years ago.

A film like AntiChrist can get away uncut because it is perceived by censors to be watched by a beardy middle-class arthouse crowd so they wont be corrupted.

The same offending scenes would not be allowed in an 18 certificate multiplex horror as people from council estates might see it and will obviously be in danger of having their minds twisted as they havent been to university.

For satire to work you should have a passionate loathing for those you are attacking or else you are just a clown with a water squirting bow tie.
