British cyclists lay down marker 4:43pm on 15 Aug 2008 to quote a few above - why can't we concentrate on events we're good at - it's the same year in year out - British media concentrates on footballers not succeeding and Andy Murraycrashesout or Tim Henmandisappoints and constantly ignores cycling success - often on the same day as other disappointments - track world champs and the MTB World champs were a case in point..........
Beckham to appear at closing ceremony on top of a London bus 12:30pm on 15 Aug 2008 Beckham may be popular, well known, fashionable - but not as an Olympian nor a world champion - british sport has a long list of those who should be considered before the football team - or is that the history bit coming into play...........

Suppose its the only way they'd get an appearance in - why not a British succesful sportsman or woman - someone who has won Olympic or world medals - or for that matter competed at Olympic or world championship level
Why boxing can banish British blues 3:22pm on 26 Jun 2008 Glad to see a British journalist giving praise to GB success. You did of course forget to mention the hatful of medals won at the Mountain Bike World championships at the weekend - as did most of the British press. Why are you and your journalist pals so focussed on the few popular sports instead of praising British success. Those Two golds in Italy were knocked off the sporting headlines by a football competition that GB couldn't qualify for and an unqualified coach taking over at club level in the league that supports that stay at home national team.

Lottery funding has produced World and Olympic winners on the track in cycling so thanks to all those have contributed - now lets enjoy the success of these British champions.
