BBC releases accessible Doctor Who DVD 2:49pm on 23 Aug 2009 I am Hearing Impaired and use subtitles. I have this DVD and other Dr Who DVDs and I think the BBC have made a real effort to be disability friendly. I have even found subtitles on special features, something most DVD makers miss even if they have subtitles. They even have which disc it is announcements so blind people can hear which disc they have put in. Well done BBC.

Silly enough to let history repeat itself? 4:39pm on 04 Feb 2009 Schools closing in bad weather was not unheard of in the past. I can remember being sent home from Mountbatten School in Romsey, Hampshire in the 1980s one time. I'd gone in to school as I did not know it was closed and shortly after going in I was going home.
"Tough love" in benefits overhaul 11:52am on 11 Dec 2008 As a single parent who is also a carer because my 3 children all have special needs (and all receive middle or higher rate Care component of the DLA) I am already very busy and do not have time for a paid job and so I recieve Income Support. If I am to look for work because my children are over 7 due to the fact there is no way the government would provide me with cleaner (at no charge), childcare for ill children, etc I would need I am to look for a job I cannot take without neglecting my children's needs! Even doing courses to pepare for work if the children do not need a carer when an adult isn't an option. For starters the type of course they will want me to go on starts at 9am as I am dropping my kids off at school! (And there is no Breakfast Club for my oldest). Then there is the fact they take up a lot of time, the time off I'd need connected with the kids (illnesses, appointments etc), ... What am I supposed to do? Put my kids in care and let the state bring them up so I can do a paid job?! We'll have to manage on the DLA and carer's Allowance even though its not enough as the DLA covers thing the kids need due to their special needs not living expenses like food.
