A merry christmas at your club? 1:36pm on 23 Dec 2009 Myself and the rest of the Doncaster Rovers fans have reason to be very happy this Christmas.

Our League position is so surprising the local paper spells it after it's been written- 'Rovers are 11th (eleventh) in the Championship'.

I don't care that the division is so compressed there's only 16 points between 22nd and 6th, nor do I care that the man who's getting all our goals (Billy Sharp) is on loan and we'll never be able to afford him.

I'm enjoying it while it lasts!
Laws a victim of Wednesday's lofty aspirations 3:15pm on 13 Dec 2009 Let's get one thing straight first: there's no such thing as 'mutual consent', they've sacked him. Yet another knee-jerk reaction by a chairman under pressure.

Last season, my team (Doncaster Rovers) were in a similar situation, and some 'fans' were calling out O'Driscoll to get the sack. In the end, we were comfortably safe. I know the relative sizes of the clubs is different, but there's no need for panic yet.

If SWFC want to build for next season, fair enough, but this season is far from over. From SWFC in 22nd to Swansea in 6th, the gap is only 14 points. Remember what Palace did a couple of years ago to get in the playoffs?
Where now for Everton? 2:28pm on 26 Nov 2009 Why don't Everton purchase the houses to the west of Goodison Park, rebuild the school with better facilities in a suitable nearby place and redevelop Goodison?

Given that they have the highest percentage of walk-up support in the Premier League, this is surely the best option.

Time to play England's 2018 trump card 1:51pm on 26 Nov 2009 @#79: Bramall Lane already has plans in place to expand the Kop end. In addition, their debt is running at around £2mil, and they turned a profit of £6mil last year.

They have a sound business plan in place, and will pay the development themselves.

Pity the team's crap really ;)
Time to play England's 2018 trump card 1:47pm on 26 Nov 2009 @#42- Stamford Bridge is too small- technically a stadium needs 44000 to meet the criteria, and the Bridge can't be extended further to my knowledge. Having said that, I'd rather have matches there than at the Olympic Stadium!

@#43- No Ibrox/Parkhead/New Douglas Park because it's an English bid, which has already been covered.

Most of my points have already been covered and I don't want to spoil screen inches, so I'll be as brief as I can...

Re the whole East Midlands argument, it's not a case of which club attracts the most fans etc etc, it's a case of which city adds most to the bid on all-round terms. For me, Nottingham is a nicer city to visit, has better hotels, a good tram system and would get my vote every time.

As for the rest, Bramall Lane is a better ground than Hillsborough, plus is closer to the city centre.

Elland Road is a dump, and needs major investment, which seems unlikely. Access to it is terrible too.

MK is a very forward-thinking place, however from memory there isn't much in the way of hospitality/hotels there.

Bristol and Plymouth have to be very careful- perhaps expansions could be merely temporary to avoid future problems- these two will never be established Premier Legue clubs.

As for London, I'd prefer just Wembley and Ashburton Grove, but we all know that won't happen.

Why don't we try to stay positive and back the efforts that are being made. The legacy of the Olympics will partially be down to the efforts of the British public to patronise the facilities after the games. We can all do our bit so away with the pessimism please!
Adebayor madness mars Man City win 3:29pm on 14 Sep 2009 Given that Adebayor got booked for his celebration during the game, I didn't think he could be punished further as the incident was dealt with during the game.

There have been numerous examples of this being the case over the past few years.
The perils of Football League management 1:05pm on 01 Jan 2009 Managers need to be given more time, simple as that really.

As a Doncaster Rovers fan, there were numerous people calling for Sean O'Driscoll's head soon after he replaced Dave Penney. The doubters were proved wrong, as he was instilling a set of value and a footballing ethos that wasn't there before.

The result? Rovers now play football to rival anyone in The Championship, apart from in the final third, where there's a general lack of quality.

That said, on the whole the fans understand the predicament, and back O'Driscoll and John Ryan (chairman), as they don't want to see the club spend outside their means with no guarantee of success.

The fans here remember where the club was 15 years ago, and don't want to go there again. Perhaps some other clubs fans need to experience that before they get on the manager's back.

For all those who disagree with this appointment- just remember it could have been worse- they could have gone for Flintoff.
