Null points from the Berlin jury 5:10pm on 11 Dec 2008 There's no way to avoid the recession, and nor should we try - it's an inherent aspect of the capatalist cycle. We'll take it on the chin, and it's going to hurt, but that's life.
Challenging the Budget 3:36pm on 20 Nov 2008 For all his blustering, Kaletsky has missed a fundamental point - UK PLC is not nearly in as good a condition as he would have us believe.

Our concept of personal wealth is wildly over-inflated, based on a housing market that was left to spiral out of control. That he should now defend the Prime Minister, who as Chancellor was the root of the problem, is ludicrous.

No-one likes the fact we're about to enter a recession, but it is inevitable. Frittering away billions in borrowed money will only prolong the agony.

Brown will not be in power come 2010 - it makes sense for him to put a sticking-plaster over this shotgun wound and let the Tories inherit billions of pounds worth of debt.

Darling's indiscretions 2:25pm on 01 Sep 2008 Darling deserves a lot more credit than I'd previously given him. Whether he knew it or not at the time, a stretch in No 11 was always going to be a poisoned chalice - his stock has risen after this interview, which would be helpful for Labour in a post-Brown opposition.
Testing the waters 5:12pm on 31 Jul 2008 One way or another, Brown is going to lose a popularity contest. If he can accept this fact, he may be sensible enough to call an election that will spite Miliband AND leave the Tories with a country in recession.

Also interesting to see Denis MacShane - the perennial also-ran - is angling for a cabinet role with his slurping appraisal of Miliband in the Guardian...

If Labour were sensible, they'd ditch Brown now and leave the Tories with a disastrous economy, to come back for 2020. Instead they'll cling to power, take the worst of the flack and give Cameron another 18 years.
Household tips from the PM 10:38am on 07 Jul 2008 Much as it pains me to do so, I am in a relative degree of agreements with Brown on this one. Doesn't excuse his mistakes or make his economic record any more laudable, mind...
Voting changes 2:18pm on 03 Jul 2008 How many more times must we endure the nonsensical fudge masquerading as the 'third way'? We have two choices:

i) Appoint separate parliaments for each nation and risk splitting the union
ii) UK Plc falls under the sole jurisdiction of Westminster

There is no alternative so make the decision and stick by it.
One year on... 4:13pm on 30 Jun 2008 @108 - I am not SO long out of univeristy and despite my 13 higher GCSEs, 3 good A Levels and a 2.1 from one of the world's best universities, I am not convinced by the British system.

All my "achievements" were attained with the bare minimum of effort, my degree was a three year holiday camp and - now working in recruitment - I find things are only getting worse.

And for the record, your daughter winces
everytime you spell it "Laughborough".
