If Jimmy didnt bowl those overs then the other bowlers would run the risk of being overbowled or Colly and Bopara would of had to bowl more and they might have been carted all over the place.

Englands bowlers got carted all over the place anyway even by the tailender Clark-did you not notice
India's young stars bristling with talent 11:48am on 15 Nov 2008 Only 1 world class bowler for india-as the one guy said earlier look at rp singh munaf patel sreesanth mishra-none of these get into indias strongest odi side but munaf is better than any other english seamer by a mile-harmison is a lost cause cant bowl 2 balls in the same area in a spell let alone an over anderson serves up half volleys by the bucket full india were smacking us everywhere and the only person that tried to bowl a yorker was flintoff!How many times will england persist with plodders at the top of the order in bell and prior?? How many chances does shah want to prove he can play why does bopara look good when its a lost cause when is colly going to get some runs and when will flintoff stop missing straight balls! Englands team were successful on average wickets in the cold late summer against a sa side ready to go home-different story on flat wickets in the sub continent-india packed the offside field to bell and prior and bowled a length outside off stump and time and time again england stroked(gently) the ball to the cover ring fielders time and time again! India picked up anything remotely full or remotely straight and whipped it for runs leg side and then when anything was overpitched it went onto the stadiums tin roof or in the gaps over the top- i wont be making the effort to get out of bed silly oclock to watch such a pitiful side ever again
The promise of an exciting winter 9:27pm on 11 Oct 2008 I love the way people say put the money into grass roots cricket but where does this money actually go?? There are children at our club that have genuine talent(scoring hundreds from the age of 10) that get invited to go onto the next level of coaching i.e county coaching sessions and games but have to pay for the training sessions sometimes to the tune of £15 per session for around 8 sessions a season! This is on top of a subscription to our club and kit costs! Our club is self run get little funding so we cant afford to pay towards it and if the family cant afford it they dont go and get that next step of coaching! This must happen up and down the country and lots of talent doesnt get access to better coaching there is lots of talent going to waste

Also what happens with a high full toss no ball above head height say is this an opportunity to score or would this be called a wide?

Shah shows value for England 7:26pm on 01 Sep 2008 I agree with #40 i dont think patel is a genuine test match spinner who will bowl sides out come the 4th 5th day-everything about spin bowling is different in odi than tests! Men around the bat-tight fields and big turn! I do however think he has a good variation of pace flight and the ball that goes on with the arm and will be a useful all rounder in the odi game!

The reason South Africa were so dominant in the test matches was because of there ability to leave the ball that doesnt need to be played! The English batsmen(bar kp) are incapable of building an innings the amount of times the english nick a ball outside off stump playing a defensive shot is bordering on comical!

Odi cricket england are running in bowling fast and aggressively and the saffers have to be more aggressive play more shots thus england having more success with the ball!

Great to see but still think bell is out of his depth at the top of the order in odis his s/rate of 40 odd could have cost england in the first odi-think england got lucky at headingly south africa self destructed when set for an easy win
Pietersen has the midas touch - for now 8:05pm on 25 Aug 2008 Watching bell bat at headingly was a shambles how many aussies would be proud of 35 off 70 balls with no boundries during his entire innings through the powerplays-its just not odi cricket and england cant carry people like that! England were very lucky on friday south africa pressed the self destruct button when they were cruising but all credit to england when they got a sniff they took there chance! Will be a different story when they have the morkels back! Collingwood has to play his bowling is very handy and he would strenghten our batting line up! I also think england would benefit from a left hand right hand opening pair make it harder for the saffer bowlers! So lets see if bell can manage a better strike rate than 50 in the next game

Ask Bearders #175 9:38pm on 16 Aug 2008 If a batsman was to get hit on the pad outside the line of off stump playing a shot- then the ball rolls back towards the stumps and batsmen kicks it away can the fielding side appeal for lbw! I would think yes because the ball has not made contact with the bat at any point and the ball is going on to hit the stump!
