Youth appeal 08:39am on 04 Sep 2009 Adrian, interesting blog. I just hope that the powers that be follow through and shorten the athletics programme. Having seen some of the heats live at Athens and watched most of Beijing the time between the 100m heats and final for example is insane, why they have so many below par sprinters is a beyond me also.

All sports, not just athletics need to be looking at ways of attracting new fans, look what 20 20 has done for cricket... even I watch it now and watched a couple of tests too after watching some 20 20 so new formats don't have to get in the way of the traditional forms, they just give an opportunity to new viewers.

As for you your other point about the Olympics should be the peak of the sport, you are of course 100% correct. That is why football should not be in the Games, but worldwide popularity will keep it there.

I don't think golf should be in nor rugby 7's but the IOC need to look again at squash, I am not a fan or a player of sqaush but surely sqaush should be looked at again.

As one of the people who regularly criticise your negativaty towards 2012, I would like to point out that I have always said that every one of yoru stories is valid and should be reported.

It is also great to see young people taking an interest in what is happening with 2012 and the wider world, whethr they support 2012 or not the fact that young people will research facts and pose thoughtful questions is good to see, well done for giving this young man the opportunity to show what most of his generation are capable of.
Not just salmon and champagne 4:11pm on 30 Jun 2009 Caz9999, rowing also received no coverage outside of the Olympics until after 1996 and a realsisation that we were good at it! Rowing has won golds for GB at every games since 1984, a better record than any other Olympic Sport. Cyclings amazinf success has been more recent and it is right that the BBC recognise the fact that British Sports fans want to watch British success.

As for squash being more popular than rowing, I think if you look at Sport Englands Active People survey you'll see they are approximatly on a par in terms of participants. Also I'd like to pick up on your point about the end prduct being what should be of interest not the hours spent training, I agree (despite having spent hours training for rowing!) however many people are interested in the outcome. You may or may not be, but many certainly are. And the image of Britain portryed as Pimms drinking balzer wearing strawberry eaters... is that really that bad, other british stereotypes include yobs (an unfair view of our football fans in my view excpet the Scots who are amazing fans at the tournaments they do get to!) and Morris dancing beer drinkers eating roast beef.

I would hope that the BBC can find time for more cycling/ sqaush (a sport I beleive the UK is very successful at)/ rowing/ etc not less for rowing to bring it on a par with these other sports.

Pity they can't get a bit of live football though.
Can the French muscle in on 2012? 12:00pm on 15 Jun 2009 Adrian you'll be surprised to hear even I agree with that comment. The organisers MUST do whatever they can to make the games accesible to all the UK population, so not just late trains but cheap trains (even free) for holders of tickets to events as well. This is vital if the whole country is to be part of this fantastic event.

I hope LOCOG have some plans for this.
Be green, don't just 'talk' it 11:56am on 15 Jun 2009 Lijuan, you are correct that all the negative stories must be reported, I actually wrote that in my last post. In my opinion every one of Adrain Warner's reports have been valid and should be reported. In many cases he has clearly worked very hard to get the facts spot on. For that he does deserve great credit.

My issue is balance, whilst there are negative aspects to the 2012 Games there is a lot of good that is already coming from it. The positives should be reported too.

I'm sure that some good things came from your city hosting the 2008 Games, but as you rightly say the negatives should be reported and the organsiers held to account.

I have read this one previous blogs you have done as well. Are we all wrong?
Be green, don't just 'talk' it 9:17pm on 09 Jun 2009 Mr. Warner, I was not questioning your work or indeed it validity. I do question that virtually all your reporting has such a negative spin. I would not disagree that every story you have done is valid, and the costs in paticular need to be scrutinised closely.
However, it cannot have escapes your notice that I am not the only person who has commented on your negative spin. Please do not accuse me of not reading your blogs, or viweing BBC London news, I watch the programme most weekday evenings (and I mean at least 4 out 5) and have read a number of your blogs, how much more often would you like me to watch? I suggest that you consider your statments as to how much of your work I see and read before putting statements like that online.
Perhaps you could point me to a positive story you've done? I do remember you saying in one report the stadium build was racing ahead. I notice your recent blog on the goverment providing funding for the athletes village has one comment (as I write this) and that agrees with me of your negative reporting.
As I have said before, on your blogs and in a letter to the BBC, all of your stories are valid and should be reported. I have no problem with the content of every report you have made, and I have read or seen, many have been very well researched, for which you deserve credit. However, the majority are negative and "down" on the London Olympics.
Working as I do at the grassroots of sport in London I see daily the inspiration the games bring to people, both young and old and how many people are now particpating in sport through schemes linked to 2012. There is SO MUCH good stuff happening. Go and find and report it.
Keep up the investigative work on the costs and the legacy in paticular, but show the good side too. It is there in spades, and not hard to find.

Be green, don't just 'talk' it 09:06am on 24 Apr 2009 I notice Mr. Warner hasn't been on BBC London TV, or written anything about the latest visit fromm the IOC and the comments from Denis Oswald that this is the best preperation he has seen for an Olympics at this stage.
Is this beacuse Mr. Warner this is a POSITIVE 2012 story, far be it for you in any way to show any balance. No doubt when the next negative story comes out you'll be on it like a rash.
I've said before, so far all your stories have been valid and we need to have the press keeping track of costs and legacy, however the reporting from Mr. Warner on BBC London is ALL negative.

Come on BBC London, a lot of good will come from 2012 and we will organise a great games.

I received that last post you made as part of a response from the BBC regarding a complaint about your reporting.

I wish to amke it clear that I think all your reports are valid and all your articles should be reported on, however in all the TV articles and blogs of yours I have read the only positive comment have heard from you is "The stadium construction is racing ahead"

Keep digging and reporting stories such as this, is is crucial that LOCOG, the ODA and the goverment are brought to task on many issues. However I set you a challenge to report on something positive about the games once a week, that shouldn't be to hard should it? Working in grass roots sport I could show you some good things if you want!!
