Capello eyes World Cup HQ 2:31pm on 23 Sep 2009 Is Fabio going to allow the Wags to turn his World Cup preparations into another circus? I doubt it. This blog includes that Fabio wants a secure, electric perimeter fence. Is that to keep the Wags out or the players in?
Capello can plot World Cup glory 08:06am on 10 Sep 2009 Without Fabio Capello we would still be the football world's greatest under-achievers. All the praise has to go to this mercurial manager who has recued England from being a bedraggled team of misfiring misfits into real contenders for the World Cup Final. A huge 'Thank You' to Fabio.

The Marvellous, Magical, Mad Football League Tour - part II 09:51am on 10 Aug 2009 The most interesting thing about this blog is the spat between the unwashed leftie and the Thatcherite Yorkshireman. To think that after 28 years some people are still hung up about Dame Margaret enough to be taking pops on a blog like this is incredible.
Arsenal will not miss Adebayor 08:45am on 20 Jul 2009 Isn't it amazing how the role of a football manager has changed in less than a generation? And Arsene Wenger has become the role model for that change. He intelligently adapts to managing highly paid and unmotivated mercenaries and enriches Arsenal in the process. I wouldn't have the patience to even talk with these guys like Abedayor and nor would most managers from just a few years ago.

Despite all the problems, Arsenal always qualify for the Champions League where they always give a very good account of themselves. Arsene Wenger must be worth every penny of the large salary he earns. 'Earns' being the operative word, unlike some journeymen managers who hop about year after year making a living from football but achieving next to nothing. I am not an Arsenal supporter but have to say "well done" to Wenger, who must have the respect of everyone who understands just a little bit about modern football.
Is Owen still worth a gamble? 10:01am on 18 Jun 2009 The reporter here, Phil McNulty, seems to think that Michael Owen was on a £120,000 a year contract with Newcastle (see paragraph 6). I imagine that if any football manager could get Owen for £120,000 a year they would all snatch his arm off. Or has Phil made another of his legendary errors? I wouldn't know!
Secrets of the fixture computer 11:47am on 15 Jun 2009 It would literally be impossible to please every club with the fixture lists and cup competitions the clubs all have. It's a miracle the fixtures can get compiled at all and that they generally work out very well. There will always be a few oddities thrown up but now we can understand that this is usually the lesser of 48 other evils. Good article - thank you.

Errr, yes! "Lengthy, but brief". Journalist Phil McNulty introduces the oxymoron into his report. Perhaps he could include phrases such as 'fast but slow' and 'low but high' in his next report, just to keep us all amused. Thanks Phil!
Pay players or let them go 7:47pm on 10 May 2009 I very much doubt that football managers are beating a path to Livingstone to sign their unsettled players. These guys probably regard themselves as lucky to have a contract and sometimes getting paid late goes with the territory. I'm sure they are free to withdraw their labour or walk away if they want to. But where else would they go?
