EU latest: a triumph for democracy? 11:57pm on 26 Nov 2009 The eu quango can’t go anywhere from here it seems.

If they appoint a strong leader as president then the current leaders of European states will feel threatened and many people (not just eu-sceptics) will be up in arms. However, if they appoint somebody who does what they are told then the president will be ineffectual and irrelevant (and a further waste of our money).

I think this marks the limit of the eu as I don’t see how this dilemma would ever be resolved.

This is not a triumph for democracy. This is stale-mate.

Rather than campaigning for U.S. participation in Copenhagen why doesn’t the BBC give people like me some facts?
Yes, probably. 2:02pm on 19 Nov 2009 £1.3 million? What were they doing for £1.3 million? I would love to know what the breakdown in costs was. Goodness, that’s over 40p each. Are the people of Wales going to get their 40p’s worth?

A balanced approach to climate change 8:42pm on 14 Nov 2009 The problem is mainly with the media and the BBC in particular IMHO. For years there have been alarmist news stories about this issue from Greenpeace, the UN, scientific and political institutions etc which the BBC have eagerly fed to us. There was a time when, for example, when Greenpeace appeared to have an umbilical cord attached to the BBC and the ability to preach to us virtually unchallenged.

As the BBC appears to have cried wolf too often in the past, it appears the message is no longer getting across. What is more, although the problem is still not defined in the public’s mind, the solutions promoted by the BBC tend to be of the left wing variety. The environmental campaigners seem to have formed a rainbow alliance with left-wing organisations and left-liberal media such as the BBC/Guardian have been used to push the message they want us to hear. Market solutions too uncertain we are told. How about command and control solutions using fictional international law? How about bypassing the People and using binding treaties instead?

It is no wonder why many people, especially those on the Right of politics – are sceptical.

The trouble is, just like the eu problem and immigration, the majority of us have been left behind while the BBC and its friends have cosy fire-side chats.

Despite what appear to be recent efforts for BBC News to be more balanced on environmental issues, the rest of the corporation has run away with itself, pumping out green propaganda. This is especially evident in output aimed at younger audiences. This propaganda tends to undermine any efforts made by BBC journalists to make amends mistakes of the past.

The environment is too important to be hijacked by a few BBC journos/editors/managers and their friends. We need unfettered facts. If this can only be achieved by a major culling of BBC management and journalists then so be it.
Is it time to give Gordon a break? 12:31pm on 11 Nov 2009 I think that the BBC is doing sterling work acting as a counterweight to The Sun. Whether the BBC manage to keep Brown in office is doubtful, but they are past masters in the dark art of pro Labour spin and will always win in the propaganda battle not least because The Sun is as subtle as a mallet.

They have spent a whole day defending the Prime Minister. They were not moved to do this when John Major was being personally attacked a few years ago. This may have been because some of the attacks were from the BBC itself.

The spinning of the unemployment rate, suppressing/relegation of news stories (such as unelected Mr Mandelson’s bid to appear in the House of Commons), the BBC’s insistence that we are coming out of the recession are symptoms of far more subtle support for Labour than the Sun could ever achieve for the Conservatives.

I wish we had one place we could go to for unfettered, unmolested facts.
The Treasury hedge fund 11:48am on 11 Nov 2009 It is imperative the BBC keeps its opinions to itself. It should not break its own editorial guidelines.
Is it time to give Gordon a break? 12:10pm on 10 Nov 2009 I think that the criticism of the Prime Minister by the Sun newspaper was over the top, although I do understand that the poor mother of the fallen soldier must be distraught.

However, I do not recall the BBC ever running a campaign along the lines of 'Is it time to give John Major a break'.

I know the BBC is sensitive to attacks on Gordon Brown. I just wish it could show balance and be less biased.
