Guess what banker. I don't own a widescreen plasma TV. Don't have a mortgage, Don't own a credit card or have any debts. At all. Ever. Nor did I contribute to the credit binge that was encouraged by the government, the banks and the media that has completely ripped this country to pieces.

I'm lucky, I choose not to get involved in your debt frenzy because I come from an old fashioned family whose doctrine was, if you wanted something, you went out and worked for it. I'm actually doing okay so far, as long as I can keep my job and keep paying the rent.

What I find particularly loathsome about you an your ilk, is that you assume that it is only the debt riven who hate the bonus culture in the city, that only those being choked to death by their debts take a dislike to city vultures and snake oil salesmen. That we're only bashing bankers because we're jealous of your supposedly (laughably) hard earned wealth. I'm not, I don't want your money, you can keep it!
Well until the taxman comes to take it off you. (won't that be a day!)

I dislike the whole financial services industry for one simple reason, because it serves no social benefit whatsoever. Financial services, banking, (in the old days it was simply called usury), and those who work in them are a leech on the hard work of the real workers in society, the ones who create the wealth, not the cretins who redistribute it to themselves.

Why is it when members of the public dare to criticize bankers for their obnoxious and obscenely greedy behavior, the bankers always resort to the wide screen plasma TV cliché? It's either that or the one about how it was the rampant and voracious greed of the feckless public who somehow tricked the angelic and innocent Finance Industry into creating the biggest credit boom in all of history.

Pretty desperate really. But then I guess you'd try any tactic to keep a grasping hold of the bonus pot. No matter how much it warped your own sense of reality, fair play and logic.

Can we, goody, and while we're at it lets add all the other people who also earn obscene amounts of money for doing very little. Senior executives, directors, in both the private and public domain, spin doctors, celebrities, the list just goes on. any-one who earns, say over 500 grand a year (who in their right mind needs any more?). Lets cap their wages too, at that amount. Any bonuses etc on top, could then get taxed away to nothing. We could call it, let me think, hmm.. . how about, the maximum wage? Could be a nice bookend to the miniumum wage that the majority of ordinary people seem to working at these days. Who knows, might do something to turn around the ever-widening gap between rich and poor that's been ballooning on for the past few decades and is at its worst since the industrial revolution.

I know, I know, all the arguments against, all the high earners, so-called entrepreneurs, 'wealth creators' and the likes of Tracy Emin etc will simply turn their noses, flutter their little wings and fly off to the nearest tax haven.

But let them go, I say, just make sure you burn their passports on the way out so the little darlings can't come back. Ever. But I'll bet they don't all go, and that much of theit bluster and talk is mostly just hot air.

I mean after all, Paul Daniels had been threatening to go for years and last time I checked the little wizard is still here.

If it does happen, which I'm dubious the current regime will have the guts for, then it will have been a long time coming and couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of guys.

I must say, I hadn't ever properly considered before the positives of a great depression.
But who knows, a little social justice, even the tiniest scrap, might be one of them.

As much as I enjoyed reading your unadulterated and joyous declaration of love for the metropolis that is London the experience you're describing is really only available to people who enjoy a significantly above average wage.

You'll find that a large proportion of the working population struggle to afford even the most basic of rents. Many people on slightly less than an average wage are forced into flat shares, or into the least salubrious slums usually south of the river.

I was raised in Chiswick where I spent the majority of my life until I was eventually priced out, as my wages hadn't kept up with the inflation in rent and house prices caused by the boom in the financial industry and the hoards of bankers and solicitors that were queuing to move in.
Several moves later I found I could barely afford to pay for the privilege of living in the murder and crime hotspot that is Streatham and decided enough was enough. I left earlier this year and have never looked back.

I honestly wouldn't even recommend London as a tourist destination.
