Big Sam is back 10:31am on 18 Dec 2008 People that complain about Sam Allardyce are either jealous or ignorant.

The blog tells you what systems he implemented in the background. And all at a time when such systems were reserved to only the biggest of rich clubs - not a "Bolton" club!

Regarding his brand of football; personally I thought it was quite attractive - if you bothered to watch it!
His teams have gone through various play types of implementing Campo and Jay Jay in midfield, two (old school) wizards of the game in that area.
Through to Diouf and Anelka, two very direct speed freaks.
Not forgetting Nolan who almost every week used to recieve plaudits from the MOTD pundits.

Don't get me wrong none are exactly super high profile (barring Anelka) but come on it was Bolton - what did you expect!

The long ball thing is complete bull. Like I say you're either jealous or your blind, or you just can't move on.
The only longs balls you'd see would came from set plays where the play would be fast tracked straight into the box. In open play they're usual style was to play through midfield and either release players down the wings or more directly with either through balls on the ground or over the top.
This is just normal play; it's certainly not "long hoof from the central defender and everyone pile forward" style play is it?!

The bottom line for Blackburn is that he will keep you up and he will get you stable. You might not compete for Europe or for the cups, but that will be no fault of Sam, it's simply because other teams around you have invested and will look to compete for those places over the next few seasons: Tottenham, Man City and Aston Villa.

So I say good luck to Sam and good luck to Blackburn and I hope you do stay up cos Blackburn, like Allardyce, get a lot of undeserved stick simply because of plain ignorance!

You can't drive a car without a licence. You can't even watch a television without a licence.

Yet you can happily raise a child - several if you want - and do unto them whatever you deem reasonable in your own head.

Yes it's "big brother" or "nanny state" intervening, but why not?

Responsible adults intervene in other peoples lives when they see wrong doing on a small scale all the time.
So why not allow the government to intervene on this subject when there is wrong doing, or potential thereof - as they already happen to do in many other areas anyway?!!

Erm... You know you can stream movies, pictures and music from any UPNP server to 360 also don't you.
Plus there's a hoard of downloadable HD movies with more coming in 2009 once they sort out a deal with a UK Netflix equivalent (like LoveFILM or Blockbusters).

The only thing the 360 lacks over the PS3 is a Blu-Ray player.

But come on, it's gonna be at least 4 to 7 years before Blu-Ray has the opportunity to take no1 spot from the existing DVD format.
Look at how long Video hung around for after the introduction of DVD in the mid 90's.

By the time BR has matured as a tech (price wise) it will be in fierce competition with very a solid and very cheap DLC structure from the likes of Sky, BT, Virgin, Blockbusters, Apple, and whoever else decides to get onboard....!!!

The PS3 needs GAMES. Big time, top draw, AAA, ground breaking games, future defining games.
It also needs to lower it's entry price point... a lot!

I've already paid £300 for my - still working happily even though it gets battered almost every night - 360. Plus £180 for my - somewhat dusty often ignored - Wii.
They give me the best of both worlds so don't want to drop another £300 on something that attempts to give me both.

The PS3 at the moment seems like it wants to be everything, but so far hasn't managed to nail any of it's characteristics perfectly... Yet.

YET. (because there's always the unknown)......
Sony's Little Big trump card? 1:38pm on 14 Oct 2008 I don't really see this title shifting millions of PS3s.

Don't get me wrong it looks pretty neat, but in reality it looks like a Wii game.
Not graphically of course, but gameplay wise; the way it's all cutesy and cuddly.
It looks like the sort of game you'd pick up and play for 5/10 minutes at a time.

That's casual gamer territory.

And the one thing a casual gamer will not do is spend £300 on a complicated piece of home entertainment media systemry for little more than 5 minute thrills!

That's what the simple £180 Wii is there for (with it's huge catalogue of cheap 5 min thrills games to go at).
And to a lesser degree also the 360 with their £120 Arcade console and their NXE interface (coming in November) with the backing of XBL Marketplace and their casual games strategy this holiday etc..

All in all I'm sure LBP will win a lot of plaudits and will most likely go down in history as a an all time great.
Unfortunately for Sony it wont kickstart the PS3 into domination over the holiday period - especially not given the global economy don't forget!
Crunch Creep 12:32pm on 30 Jul 2008 I've seen a number of trends rise through observing my own behaviour, my family, friends, colleagues, and of course reading news. Such as...

#Growing your own vegetables.
#Keeping livestock, mainly chickens.
#Shopping at markets/stalls for other sundries and clothes.
#Taking lunch to work.
#Repairing personal items rahter than replacing.
#Performing your own car maintenance.
#Doing your own work on or around the house.
#Using Aucitions more be it local or electronic.
#Using alternative transport such as mopeds, bicycles or just walking.
#Moving onto Pay as Go contracts for various services.
#Changing Direct Debits to Standing Orders.
#Moonlighting or just changing jobs for greater pay.

The list is almost endless, and just about most of those I've done myself.
Nintendo lead from the front 2:31pm on 17 Jul 2008 To Sony, and all those here commenting, saying "be patient".
I respond with a simple question: Why?

Why should I be patient and wait for Sony to show us what it's console is capable of?
I really do not care - at this precise moment - what the machine will be able to do in 2 - 3 years time.
I care about what it can do right now.

I'm not about to invest over £300 now on something that will produce results in 2 years time. I will invest my money only when it starts to prove itself.

In my 29 years I've owned just about all the big hitting consoles ever released. But I only buy them when they're cooked.

The problem Sony have right now is that (it seems) they desperately need people to invest today in order for them to produce the required results in 2-3 years time.
That, unfortunately for them, is not my problem. And if that means they can't produce the results then so be it. Somebody else will just take their place.
