Anfield's day of destiny 2:12pm on 23 Oct 2009 Good blog Phil, especially in relation to Owen's reception - seems to be the tradition these days that (with some honourable exceptions) former players of teams are booed when they return to play, no matter what the circumstances were with them leaving.

I foresee a very close game, couldnt have come at a better time for Liverpool in my opinion given their current run, good to see G Neville adopting the sensible approach, nothing would re-ignite their season better than to win this game.....

fair play - cant remember that one to tell the truth - given i was only born just before the World Cup final of that year, i think i can probably be excused. Apparently i was due on the day of the final, my dad said he would record it if England got to the final - my birth obviously!!

Whatever the outcome COULD have been, the game should have been stopped after 4 minutes - end of.
The logic of added time is for incidents that have already occured during the match, not incidents following the 90 minutes. This is so typical of top Premier clubs. Chelsea have done the same countless times, it's sick.

the goal was actually scored at 95:27 (or something like that) but why let facts get in the way of your argument.....

and i have read some rubbish on here today, but i think yours might well be one of the worst - how can you say that stoppages in added-on time should not be counted? Added time, as you say is caused by stoppages during the game. therefore the "actual" time when the clock read 90 mins yesterday was 86 mins, due to the stoppages, therefore any new stoppages need to still be counted as they are still happening during the game.

surely someone else understands this as well i do?

as a former referee i was often asked how much injury time there would be, and i usually didnt know as i would stop my watch when i thought necessary, so only ever played up to 30/35/45 minutes, as i had stopped my watch - which they dont do on Sky.

im sorry, but would you care to publish where FIFA regulations state goal celebrations are not included in any added time? So what you are saying is that a team could sneak a goal and then drag their celebration of that goal out for as long as they wanted to waste time? Doesnt sound too fair to me.....

And Bluedefence - of course everyone on here is "objective" except for the Man Utd fans. You would say that as a lot of them agree with you......it seems there are still many ABUs out there. I suppose though it is just like last week, all the Man City fans were biased and all the Arsenal and "neutrals" in agreement that Adebayor should be banned from ever playing football again (or something along those lines).

It is a shame that two cracking games of football (City - Arsenal last week and United - City this week) have been dragged into slanging matches over small issues.

we dont have to "justify anything" - the ref's decision is final, and he decides what stoppages there have been and what time to add on. but to say seven minutes of added time is going a bit far dont you think, Owen scored after something like 95:30 - so unless you wanted the ref to blow the final whistle then, there was always going to be more than that on the clock by the time the game kicked-off again to make up "seven minutes".
