England get luck of the draw 05:34am on 05 Dec 2009 Phil, I was hoping for a blog about the World Cup draw in South Africa but it is just a blog about one team. With all the media around the world there and hundreds of millions watching on television surely the first blog after the draw should be about the draw itself. But this is the start of the media hype that has the cabinet makers making the new cabinet in the FA to keep the trophy.

If you were rich and famous and had pretty girls throwing themselves at you. it would be tempting. So he was tempted, acted on it and was caught. he is human after all.
Is it his fault that sponsors are falling over each other to pay him millions? Sure he has made a huge amount of money but it seems to be forgotten he gives quite a bit back with his foundation.

Spain can end Europe's historical failure 09:41am on 01 Dec 2009 Personally, I really hope Spain win the World Cup as it is great to see this attitude on how football should be played being rewarded. I have this sneaking feeling that Germany might win it as it has been a long time since they did.

Man City will regret lack of ambition 09:53am on 22 Nov 2009 If I was a Man City fan I would be very annoyed at the tactics. If they went gung-ho and lost so what? Getting beat at Anfield is not the end of the world. Man U did and it won't affect them too much this season. There was so much more to gain if they won. Why doesn't any team go out to win a game especially as man for man they seemed to be the stronger side? If they put a gap on Liverpool who are already short of confidence, it could have almost guaranteed they could finish above them and therefor greatly improve their chances of a top 4 place. Shame on you Mr. Hughes.
That was horrid, Henry 1:18pm on 19 Nov 2009 Players cheat. Referees are conned. The fans get angry. This is not a new phenomenon. There is deliberate hand-ball in almost every match. Some players are caught and some get away with it. Paul Scholes scored a hand-ball goal last year in the Super Cup and got a red card. His team mates went over to congratulate him on his goal. if it stood there would be no big deal because it was a pretty meaningless match. But when it happens in a huge match then there is uproar about the perpetrator being the devil himself. I am sure everyone can come up with with a long list of cheats. In fact it would be a very short list of honest players. If a player knows the ball came off him for a throw-in, is he a cheat to shout "Our ball"?
If Henry told the ref that he handled it, what would the ref do? Would he disallow the goal? Would he book Henry? Can he give the power of officiating the game over to the players?
It happened and it was bad. But it happens every week. I am Irish too and although they won't admit it now, I bet none of the Irish players would have owned up.
Give me a call, Cap! 3:57pm on 12 Nov 2009 No one has commented on the current Brazil team. In the old days most of their players played in Brazil so they only knew the Brazilian way of playing. Now with so many, if not all playing in Europe they have been sterilized into playing the pragmatic way. It's kinda sad really. If only they could look at Spain to see that the beautiful game can still win trophies.
Safin says goodbye 11:57am on 12 Nov 2009 I think he was a real character and will be badly missed. He will look back and think he had a good career. He made a lot of money, traveled the world and never took himself too seriously. He was always colourful in a time of many robots. You never knew what to expect.

On the subject of the best goalkeeper, I did not see the name of Shay Given mentioned at all. I was thinking if Arsenal had him between the sticks they would have a great chance of wining the league.

I have to laugh when people are so opposed to Celtic and Rangers joining the EPL. It's all about money these days. The owners, the managers, the players, I bet even the tea ladies would move to a bigger club if paid more. Tradition and the game itself are now secondary to the greenback. And who is paying for all this? The fans of course. The latest fad is selling the stadium's name to get even more money to put in the players bank accounts. Celtic and Rangers joining the EPL will just be a business move.
Mickelson boosts Shanghai profile 10:44am on 09 Nov 2009 That was easily one of, if not the best tournament of the year. I thought the golf course was magnificent especially the last three holes. They were the catalyst for some great drama. I don't remember seeing so many remarkable shots (good and bad) from the world's best. It was also great to see young Americans willing to travel and experience golf in other parts of the world. I got the impression they really enjoyed it.
