Club ownership: The unsolvable debate 1:55pm on 12 Sep 2008 Money rules and as long as money is the focus, like in so many other situations worldwide, the rich will call the shots and decision makers will be directed by the rich. How can the government control the situation relating to foreign players in this country when it allows tax havens, even within the country? These are the complications of the system where the poor have no say.
Taekwondo needs to move with the times 6:26pm on 24 Aug 2008 The problem is that some nations seem to complain about the judging and scoring only when it would benefit them. The situation is abated as well by the commentators who make strange statements who never complain about the scoring when their favoured team is benefitting. It happens in football, boxing, taekwondo etc. The view appears to be that it is ok when we are benefitting. Nonsense!!!!
Bolt makes the impossible real 1:34pm on 21 Aug 2008 Pity about the comments from Jacques Rogge about the Bolt's celebration. Does Rogge want to see the fist pumping celebrations where you can see a man's blood vessels on his neck and the aggression on his face? Is Rogge not part of the officialdom which can prove whether an athelete is on drugs or not? What do the official records say? Surely Bolt has been tested over and over again. Maybe the powers that be should make offical announcements about the athletes so as to stop speculation about drugs. For Polyglot47 to say that "In Jamaica there are no anti-dopping controls , which is worst than a wonder drug. They all take steroids at certain seasons of the year. The International Olympic Committe should introduce compulsory tests everywhere and not only in developed countries like Britain , Germany , USA , etc." is very disrespectful and will not draw comment from me. I will not sink that low.
Capello springs surprise with Terry choice 6:26pm on 19 Aug 2008 It was a difficult choice for Capello in that both JT and RF have yobbish attitudes. It is all very nice when one is winning; a true captain shows his class when he retains his dignity and that of his team while losing. Their respect for match officials is very non-exemplary. Take RF's behaviour when ManU lost to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and the incident with the unfortunate lady. That is not the first time when RF has shown disrespect for others when under pressure. Those are the type of incidents that show the true lack of character of players like RF. JT's past is also laced with acts of aggression off the field. Of course, it all goes back to the managers at the time. Sometimes managers need to be critical in their public statements. So for me, it is a question of returning to the basics; respect of the officials and your fellow players. If this attribute is followed, we will have captains that our youth can look up to and captains that the whole nation can be proud of.
