Is it just coincidence that it's suddenly a crime for a club to be in debt, when the Spanish and Italians got away with it for years?
How much fuss would Platini be making if the French league was the best and most successful because of the influx of foreign money?
As far as Blatter's concerned it's always been a case of trying to screw the British for having 4 representatives from the "same country".
They are stuck in the past. Why worry about 4 reprsentatives from the UK in these days of the EEC where the law says no player should be considered to be a "foreigner"?
Isn't it more likely to do with the fact that we've just had the first all-English CL final?
Just look at the size of the crowds teams like Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal get. Come to that, even the dear old Irons.
Do you think any of them care which country the owner was born in?
Foreign owners aren't always out of touch with the club's roots either - Look at the way Abramovich has shown he doesn't just want his team to win everything but to do it playing the attractive football the fans have always demanded. Can anyone say the same for those responsible for the Arsenal sides throughout the 1980's?
Football's a beautiful game and we're lucky enough to attract the best players in the world - yet there's always someone who wants to knock it. Although, as you're a Boro supporter I suppose we shouldn't be too surprised.

That's just so funny! So the tinfoil-hat-wearers expect the rest of us to believe that all these super-powerful "head honcho's of the media / industrial / military / governemntal complex that we live in" all working together couldn't work out how to use a shredder so they came up with 9/11 instead?

Presumably the idea came up over a drink and a game of cards with a few of the Vesuvian guys, I suppose.

I disagree - I'm English through and through but I was cheering like made for Team GB at the Olympics - Chris Hoy and all the rest. It seems to me however that it is for the most part only the English who do this, so I don't think jimbullard21 really has anything to worry about on that score.

The thing is that we cannot have a combined GB football team because there is no such thing as a UKFA. There is however a precedence to allow one of the home FA's to represent GB at an Olympics held on our shores. I don't see why we shouldn't use that to our advantage, if only to stick two fingers up to Blatter :o)
UK Olympic team spells danger for Scotland 1:12pm on 29 Aug 2008 As an Englishman I agree with Chick Young. Entering a combined (note the word combined) team to represent GB in 2012 would be the thin end of an extremely long wedge.
Blatter has been trying to bash the Brits for years.
The only precedent there is was in the previous London Olympics where a GB team took the field comprising only of English players.
If something similar were repeated in 2012 FIFA would not be able to use that against the home nations in future. As long as the GB team was made up of representatives of a single football association.
What I suggest is a revival of the Home Internationals spread over two years 2010/2011 - so each team will play each other home and away. The winners of the tournament would then have the right to represent GB at the 2012 Olympics.
If it's given the right spin (eg given the appearance of becoming a permanent feature of the calendar) the Home International tournament would be seen to be totally separate from the Olympics, so none of the profits by the tournament would have to be shared with the IOC.
That way all four nations can feel they've been given a fair go and even make a bit of money in the process.
Even the sweaty socks couldn't object to that surely?

I remember the story of how Ray Davies had to make a transatlantic round trip just to change a single word of "Lola" ( in the days before Concorde too), just to make sure certain radio stations wouldn't ban the song on the basis of the lyrics referring to a particular brand of cola.
As for the New Seekers, David Dundas, et al: All their songs started as ads and the words had to be changed in order to get them radio airtime.
In those days radio stations realised that, if they were to play songs which plugged products, there would be no reason for any client to pay them to place adverts. If radio stations returned to this policy I believe it would still have the stopping power of a well-aimed housebrick. If the song doesn't get played, the artists involved are denied the promotion, which in turn makes them less attractive to corporate sponsors.
Why hoax? 11:41am on 25 Jul 2008 In some small defence of dear old Auntie we need to remember the date of broadcast was 1 April when talking about the spaghetti tree report. The British press have a long history when in comes to making up April fool reports.
Esther Rantzen perpetuated a number on her "That's Life" programme, which was also on the BBC. Anyone remember the discovery of that rarest type of llama, the Lapri Loof?
