Why was David Nutt sacked? 03:11am on 02 Nov 2009 Let's take a positive view on this. So far as we know, Dr Nutt and his two fellow resignees (if that is a word) are all still alive.
That's more than could be said after the late Dr Kelly's attempt to inject some rational scientific judgement into government spin about WMD.
BNP's 'hang generals' just 'humour' 8:23pm on 20 Oct 2009 #7 No, this is exactly the reason they should be on question time. Don't let them breed in their own little dark corner. Get them out in the open and give them some rope. They will soon hang themselves.
The only (bad) reason for keep them away from mainstream TV is because somebody is scared the majority of the UK population actually agrees with them.

Brown agrees to debate 2:00pm on 03 Oct 2009 Of course Labour wants a debate, "in principle". The longer they can keep debating the terms and conditions for a debate, the less time the media wll have to trash their government's track record.
If they can get to a position where it is everybody else's fault that Flash Gordon never got the chance to actually take part in a debate, that would be an even better scenario for his spin-doctors.
No ordinary week for the PM 12:15pm on 26 Sep 2009 One of todays newspapers had a picture of Sarkozy Obama and Brown walking somewhere (presumably to their joint press conference).
Brown was leaning sideways at a slightly unstable angle and Obama appeared to have his hand up Brown's back pulling the strings on the puppet. Nothing different from Bush and Blair, except the puppet and the puppet master are both a bit taller.
Still, Brown will be a footnote to history six months from now. Bring it on...
An inconvenient truth about global warming 8:25pm on 16 Sep 2009 From the global hysteria in the media (and the BBC is as bad as the rest) an unbiased observer from Mars would probably conclude that Climate Change / Global Warming is a new cult religion, not science.

Like most cults, the so-called debate generates more hot air than rational thought.

The most certain prediction is that a few winners will make a lot of money out of it at the expense of a few billion losers. Capitalism is clearly alive and well, whatever the state of climate modelling.
Who is batting for file-sharing proposals? 01:35am on 26 Aug 2009 All this earnest technical debate is completely missing the point. This is about politics, and the only interesting question (to Mandelson) is how many votes it is worth.
I would guess that most illegal file-sharers don't bother to vote anyway (even if they are old enough to have a vote) and they certainly wouldn't vote Labour, so there is nothing to lose by annoying them. On the other hand, a lot of technologically illiterate Daily Mail readers will probably like it.
Since it won't be implemented till after the next election, no politician is going to lose any sleep worrying about whether or not it is feasible. Once it has served its purpose at the ballot box, it can easily be kicked into the long grass.
I'm not a cynic - just a realist.
Government not defeated 10:52pm on 07 Jul 2009 Time was when Frank Field was just about the only Labour MP that I had any respect for, but not any more.
In the last 12 months or so he's completely lost it. All he has done is come up with an interminable series of "protest votes" all of which have either been cancelled at the last minute or failed to deliver anything.
Whatever ... there will be another "crisis" along in a minute. July 23rd in Norwich, I presume?
'Rebuilding Labour's Future' 6:35pm on 29 Jun 2009 It's clearly designed to appeal to the illiterate next generaton of voters that have been created by what is laughingly described as "Labour's education policy".
Or if you prefer, it's a last-ditch attempt to get the BNP vote back into the Old Labour camp.
Even a BNP-UKIP coalition could probably run the country better than the current bunch of incompetents.
Relieved and nervous 6:08pm on 05 Jun 2009 Just a thought: if GB is serious about reforming the House of Lords, will the reforms include removing the PM's right to stuff it with his own unelected cronies (Digby Jones, Alan Sugar, Glenys Kinnock) so they can join the govenerment?
No, I thought not. Silly me for ever imagining "an elected upper house" might actually mean "elected by the general population"...
