Wenger wins in madcap weekend 09:40am on 14 Dec 2009 Great to see Arsenal back on track again, I really hope they can put together a serious title challenge in the second half of the season and maybe win it if Utd don't but please anyone but Chelsea.

Liverpool's season only looks bad because of how lucky they were last season with all kinds of decisions, sendings off and late goals that went their way combined with Chelsea and Arsenal being off the pace. It was just pure luck.

The midweek game away to Burnley will be very indicative of how serious Arsenals title challenge will be. Unfortunately it's just the type of game they go and lose after a good result. I really hope they can get a win because Utd and Chelsea will most likely pick up 3 points.

I was expecting a link to the game where we beat Germany 5-1 in Munich. Proves the same point though.
Owen lifts Man Utd's Euro hopes 2:46pm on 10 Dec 2009 If it was me I would take Owen, you have nothing to lose with a back up striker like him but I'm not the manager. Capello decides and will make the right decision so no point debating.

Having said that I would also say that gambling on Defoe is a no no for me. He's never performed on the big stage and notoriously goes missing against any notable opposition both domestically and internationally not to mention being a bit of a runt and easy to shove off the ball when in possession. All he can do is finish against small teams and that's it. Crouch is much the same and is embarrassing in an England shirt. I would put Bent ahead of them both. My personal England striker pecking order would be:

1. Rooney
2. Cole or Bent
3. Owen
4. Defoe
5. Crouch

Take the first five and leave Crouch at home where he belongs.

Glad to see Chelsea beaten, noticed they resorted to their usual throw their toys out of the pram antics when they're beaten again. At least with Man Utd it's their manager who throws the tantrums not the whole team. Although it was definitely a penalty why must Drogba throw himself to the ground so dramatically and why does he keep getting away with it week after week? Unfortunately Arsenal have no chance of winning the league (or anything) this season so come on Utd. Anyone but the overpaid Chelsea prima donnas.
Wenger finds defeat hard to swallow 09:32am on 03 Dec 2009 Firstly I have to agree with a lot of the sentiment about your blog Phil, it seems you have a soft spot for Man City this season just because they've come into the money, last season you weren't interested in them at all. Some accurate, unbiased writing please, as license fee payers its the least we deserve especially as we've had to put up with your pro-Liverpool agenda for years now.

I really feel Arsenal should of gone for this game a bit more. The side they put out did ok considering City fielded their strongest team but this could of been Arsenal's best chance at that elusive trophy this season. On their day they are capable of beating any team but Chelsea who are out. I can't see them winning the FA Cup, I'm not even convinced they will make it beyond the third round with their tie away to West Ham.

As for Wenger's reaction after the game, it was a nothing story blown out of proportion once again by you Phil as you so often do. The man is free to do what he wants and react how he wishes. I don't see any mention of Bellamy's foul mouthed tirade that were captured by the cameras at half time. Make up your mind Phil, Liverpool or Man City?

Your argument doesn't stand up. You can't argue that Defoe 'never scores in big games', then when he does say 'oh it's only once'. A goal is a goal, it doesn't matter what minute it's scored in or what the final out come was. I was referring to Defoe scoring, not to when it was scored or what minute it was in.

How many goals has Rooney scored against Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool this season? Erm.... 1.

Scoring goals against weaker teams isn't a crime. And also most strikers don't score loads of goals against better teams for that simple reason, they're better.

Well I'm not referring to just goals, the fact Defoe goes missing relates more to his performances as a whole. We all know Rooney isn't exactly prolific but would you take him out of the England team and replace him with Defoe? I don't think anyone would. Like Crouch, Defoe can score goals against the minnows but up against other opposition you wouldn't notice he is playing. Against Brazil a few weeks ago, Defoe came on and was simply bullied off the ball every time he got a touch, he's too weak and therefore contributes nothing but a sulky face. So ok, play him against the likes of Andorra and he will score goals but play him against any of the top teams and he'll be absent, a sure way for England to get knocked out of the World Cup. Don't even get me started on Crouch in an England shirt....
