So what if they are provoked? If someone celebrates in front of them, gestures rudely, or something? Surely they should be expected to behave themselves regardless?
It's not as if the poor darlings don't provoke the players with their oh-so-clever chants.
Only religious fanatics and football supporters expect to be treated like provoking their tender sensibilities can justifiably lead to violence.

Cheryl Cole hot? You must be joking. You can't even see what she looks like under all that paint; and without the moustache she would have if she didn't exfoliate daily.

They are taught to speak much higher than would be 'natural', and use inflections etc that are considered feminine. They are also trained to act and move in certain ways that are considered right for girls, are trained to wear make-up, blablabla. And as you all know, they are made to exfoliate to keep their natural body hair in check. Without that, the streets would be full of women with moustaches and fluffy cheeks. I doubt your average Joe thinks about this much....
The same is true for males, of course - they are trained to be males, there's nothing 'natural' about the way most men act - just accept it, boys don't cry.
Societies (European, Asian, African, all of them) like to keep a gap between what they consider to be masculine and feminine.
You take this cultural coercion away, or mix it up a little, and you get women with body language many men find darn confusing; and women's body and facial hair, that's an area where most men are in complete denial. So watching a butch-looking girl makes a lot of us feel oh so queesy, as it raises uncomfortable questions, even challenges our own identity.
In fact, just take the make-up away from women, and many people - men and women - already get confused.
Just take the make-up away from the Jamaican women sprinters, for example, and the fluttering body language and high-pitched voices any female impersonator can copy, and you get a good-looking bunch of 'blokes'....
Equally, slap a coat of paint on Semanya and teach her how to be girly, and watch the men drool....
When this blows over, I expect the image makers to get hold of her and make a few changes. I hope not, but if she wants to sell some merchandise, it would probably help.
Or maybe the world has moved on enough to let her just be herself....
Running Hungaroring 2:32pm on 04 Aug 2009 Good blog, as per usual. Has the ring of truth - so it's either truthful, or just well written, either way, well done.
Is running a race track a common practice? If not, you may have started a new trend. How about setting up a track running club that takes fans around F1 tracks before the race weekend? It would make the race experience afterwards incredible, very personal, very real.

He cocked up a few times (the boks should have won the Tri-Nations last time around, his substitutions in the first test were suicidal), but his trust in his players, black and white, who do know what they're doing, usually sees him through.

He was wrong not condemning eye-gouging first, before, by all means, defending Burger as an honourable man. As a South African friend of mine said, though, anyone with half a brain would have realized what he was trying to say, in his garbled way, instead of jumping on the band wagon of trying to obfuscate the boks achievement.

He's right about the British media.

He's right about racism prevailing in the white-dominated upper echelons of SA society.

Here's to hoping the 3rd test is good. The boks have made 10 changes, but they look like a very exciting team nonetheless.

And here's to the Tri-Nations - may at least one game be as briliant as the two Lions tests.

That's inaccurate. England did ok in the 6N, and were unlucky to lose against Ireland, who were lucky to beat a nervous Welsh team. All in all not much to choose between England, Ireland, Wales and France (nice to see Ireland win it all, though - it was a long wait).

I thought this season saw the turn-around for England - it came right after the Angry Face Episode - great TV btw.

Saffers love to hate refs, who often do not appreciate the only true way to play rugby.
What bets the cry on Saturday night will be: "Die ref het ons gerob!"(the ref has robbed us)?
I think there is a chance for the Lions - it will be a close one!

Ha - getting excited now.

- The Boks have been the best team in the world for three years.
- However, they are nowhere near being a truly great team - I doubt they would make anyone's Top 10 over the last 50 years.
- Despite being the best since 2007, they lost the No. 1 spot to the ABs (the weakest ABs for decades!) during the 2008 Tri-Nations because the new coach messed too much with a winning formula.
- However, being the best right now doesn't mean others aren't close, or can cause an upset on the day.
- The Lions, for example, certainly can win, but probably won't.

Re. Test No 2 at Loftus
- As a Bok supporter, I want them to win, and win well.
- As a realist, I want them to play to their strengths and don't make any silly mistakes, like substituting the winning formula with 25mins to go.
- As a rugby fan, I want this to be a good, close match with the Lions emerging with enough honour to keep the British and global rugby public interested in Lions rugby for at least another few decades.

Re. The Anglo-Celtic wars
- World War 3 will be fought on Hadrian's Wall.
- Only joking.
- Chaps, while your vulgar nationalism is amusing, isn't it a bit misplaced in the context of a Lions tour?

Good analysis, agree with what you say, except:
Northern Hemisphere rugby may be a bit boring (PoV), but it isn't that soft. And the rugby played in France is not the same as that played in England (or Ireland, etc). Just as Southern Hemisphere rugby isn't the same everywhere: Aus rugby is very different to SA rugby, and Kiwi rugby is another thing altogether.

One thing in the Boks favour: The bench. Jaque Fourie, Steenkamp, Roussou? Wow.
Now if the Boks 2nd 15 played the Lions 2nd 15, that would have been a good mid-week match-up. Anyone know why there isn't a mid-week game between test 2 and 3?
