Touching a nerve 10:54am on 19 May 2009 It is a symptom of the malaise of modern Wales that people with the skills and abilities like the top three Conservative candidates, all of whom clearly have a passion for Wales, cannot live and work here. They have top level skills in Law, Business and Finance and cannot be accommodated by our economy which values lumpy public sectorism above enterprise and excellence. Most people would rather have an incredibly highly qualified, dual-domiciled person to represent them as an MEP than someone who has been a shop steward in Neath Port Talbot Social Services for two minutes.

Both the Labour leader (John Sheppard, Llandaff) and Deputy Leader (Sophie Howe, Whitchurch) are looking seriously vulnerable and Labour could fall to 3rd place in terms of seats.

The Heath ward, comprising Heath and Birchgrove, is one to keep an eye on too. It was won convincingly by the LibDems in 2004 but is in play this time. It is where the 2007 Cardiff North Assembly Election was won for Jonathan Morgan and the Tories look like rocketing from 21% poll in 2004 to well over 40% this time. It could be the site of one of the few LibDem losses in Cardiff.
